I don't know when it changed, but I thought I heard them say it on the boat on Sunday, so checked earlier this week, and confirmed it through the Ceroc London website. I was wondering if it's the Ceroc teachers convention this weekend - isn't that usually in January?

I believe Hammersmith has Erick upstairs and Nigel Anderson downstairs though I could be mistaken. If true, should be an interesting contrast of styles

What do you mean downstairs and upstairs at Hammersmith? Mind you I haven't been to Hammersmith since 1998 so what would I know.

Upstairs where the main entrance is, there is the main large hall and bar then downstairs (which feels like a basement but is actually ground level) is the small hall that is used for the blues room

Re: Who's going where? Weekend 14th/15th/16th Jan 2011

Had a great time at Hammersmith last night. Seemed to be ages since I was last there. Gender balance seemed about right (i.e. I got asked to dance a lot ) and the music upstairs and down was excellent.

I am wondering if it's as popular as it used to be? It was busy, but not as packed as it used to be when it went on to 2am with 2 rooms. This was great as on the whole you didn't have to worry so much about numpties with no floorcraft as there was enough room to dance comfortably. I've also noticed over the last year or so that when I have gone, there have been fewer and fewer people there whom I know, either forumites (only saw 3 last night) or from weekenders, classes etc. And I didn't see any women whom I knew last night at all - not even from classes. Having said that, I did have lovely chats with those I did see/dance with.

I didn't get to spend as much time downstairs as I'd have liked. Although the music was great, they had these horrible flashing lights. I'm sure that they were flashing in time with the music, but they made me disorientated and gave me a headache, so had to give up in the end hope that they sort that one out.

Was a good, fun night regardless though.

Glad it wasn't just me then - and the music was a bid depressing at times. The DJ looked like he was going to top himself, kept going out the back...

I agree that Hammersmith has never been that great for me as:

    • The sound system is rubbish in the main hall
    • There seemed to be quite a lot of beginners for some reason - don't have a problem with dancing with them, but it's nice to dance with some experience
    • Music isn't always as uplifting as it could be...

Not bad, just not great. I noticed a few regulars leaving early too...
