I'm happy that they're getting married.

I'm ambivalent about the whole "big wedding thing" - on a variety of fronts, but mainly because I think this sort of thing doesn't help the UK progress socially as a country.

Just because they're young and goodlooking (well, until he loses all his hair), doesn't make them less anachronistic institutionally than Charles, Liz, or even the Sainted Queen Of Mum.

No matter who you are ,weddings are allways "big things"

even a 2+2 is a big thing for those getting married

the UK hardly exports any goods these days . we rely on invisible exports, such as tourism

and this wedding will be good for tourism

I suspect this one may be slightly larger in scale than average though...

Sure - and from a financial point of view, it's a good use of taxpayer's money, it'll definitely generate a "profit" that way.

On the other hand, I'd rather this country not rely on the occasional royal wedding as the basis for our economic recovery. I mean, at some point we'll run out of them.

Huh... apparently it's Catherine not Katherine.

A somewhat unfortunate choice of joint initials there then...

There's an unwritten rule.. for any service, car hire, cakes, photography, hair styling etc etc if you prefix them with the word "Wedding" it at least quadruples the price.

Doesn't matter if you're getting the same service as you would be for a non wedding event.. it costs 4 times as much.

TOP TIP if you plan to get married just tell every service provider you're having a birthday party.. and the woman in the biiiiig white dress is just in a really fancy elaborate party frock!

    Oh yes ...

Coupled with the tried-and-tested "But don't you want the best for your Special Day?" response when you presume to query the price.

    Sounds like a good plan

Oh, on the WC front (!), here's my "tasteless joke competition" entry:

Prince Harry isn't invited to the wedding cos it's family only.

This seems a bit unquantifiable - says who?

They are just as capable of reproduction as anyone else, surely. In fact, shouldn't we be breeding them with this in mind? At the current rate we have at least an 18 year gap at the very minimum before we can expect another similar event, W&C need to crack on.

Surely it’s China that will benefit the most with the production of tacky souvenirs

    Experts. Apparently.

The estimates thrown around for the extra business revenue from this have been varying - I've seen estimates of £600m - £1.8Bn thrown around. In other words, they don't know.

But yes, I think it's reasonable to assume that the UK will "show a profit" from this event.

I just don't think that should be a rationale for it.

I mean, we'd make a profit from the PM doing a sponsored can-can, that doesn't mean it's the right thing to do.

    Re: That Wedding

Blimey, I've just seen on the news that there will be 600,00o visitors to London that day

Is there any decent dancing on? Preferably not with a bleedin' royal theme...

I know I posted this before - still, I would love there to be more open discussion about this. Maybe on the Jeremy Kyle show?

Apparently Max Clifford says they met and were lovers at least 9 months before Harry was born.......

Yeah but what would make you think it was a royal wedding then?

    -----------------------------

Anyway, I have money riding on this wedding, so I will be watching:

Queen hat - must be blue (odds of 4-1 - why was yellow favourite?)
Wedding dress - ivory (8-13) - well it ain't gonna be white is it?
Time the Middleton bird walks thru' the door of the Abbey - ideally after 11:12 for a 5-1 shot - but 11:06 would do.

Apparently James Blunt is fav to be first song for their disco...........I decided not to be on that......just in case Rocky muscles in on this gig
