    Re: Midlands Champs 21st Nov

Not for me this year. Went last time and thoroughly enjoyed the day, but we're taking a break now till next years comps.

On the subject of not hearing much tho' - I think all the other champs could take a leaf out of Welsh Champs's book. Although it was slightly annoying at times, it has to be conceeded that their continual promotion of the event resulted in an excellent turnout and a memorable weekend for all .

Can you imagine the London champs, Scottish champs, Blackpool champs, Midlands champs, Britrock, WSM WCS champs all promoting that much. Spam email folders to overflowing, and facebook would be even more unbearable for people advertising jive events than it already is. It's getting close to time for a FB cull of 'friends' who just want to advertise their events to me I feel!

I agree wholeheartedly - would defo be unbearable - BUT would Welsh have been the success it was without the promotion???

Impossible to tell of course. I know of 2 people who got so fed up with all the promotion that they told me that they weren't going because of it.

It was a very successful day, so all kudos to Mark & Lyndsey, although I think that it probably would have been as successful without the constant reminders. I'm not sure that having it rammed down your throat several times a week for months leading up to it will have changed anyone's minds about attending, and once people were aware of it, then no need to keep reminding them would have been my personal preference.

Of course, if you don't advertise a lot, then people won't become aware of things that are happening. It's a fine line I guess, although sometimes it's overstepped by a couple of miles

That day is starting to dawn for me. I recently missed a personal invitation on facebook because of all the spam invitations I receive. Thankfully I received a text message from my friend asking if I'd received the facebook invitation.
