People who start up a 'meaningful' conversation, just as a really great track starts and I've spotted the perfect partner in my peripheral vision

I don't think hates make very suitable pets, they just hang about the house looking grumpy.
What could be happier than a perfect dance? I can't stand people who dance with the same fixed, lunatic grin no matter who they're dancing with or what they're dancing to. Seems a bit impersonal and unconnected to me. I had to turn Tom Cruise down for a dance once.
Luckily, not many people fit into the smiling lunatic category. I danced with one once - he radiated total love for all mankind at the start of the dance. This rapidly wore off when he realised I was rubbish at WCS and he has never danced with me since. So I'd prefer someone surly with a bit of sincerity and staying power.
There is a difference surely though in smiling (or grinning), and looking like you'd rather not be there or be dancing with this person.
At one of my regular venues (albeit a while ago), the teacher had been one of my Taxi pupils. When asked why it wasn't me up on the stage I always replied that he took it (Ceroc), far too seriously.
Anyway I am not suggesting inane grinning, that too would put me off, but there is nothing wrong with a smile and indicating to your partner that you are enjoying the dance.
If people don't like smiling they should take up Salsa.
