Well how many have you tried???

Inspired by a status posting on fb by My friend Northy (the Wanderer) working out how many venues he has danced in I thought I have a little tot up the number of different places I can remember dancing in. I have not counted any venues twice if I have danced there for different forms of dancing. Though I was surprised by how many places I’ve been I know I’m a mere amateur by some standards.

I have done 2 dance cruises on different ships that went to several destinations but have only counted it as 1 for each cruise.

    Weekenders 5 Venues
    Modern Jive 42 Venues
    WCS 3 venues
    Salsa 5
    Tango 3
    Cruises 2

    Total 60

The furthest I’ve travelled to for a freestyle is Stoke (about 200 miles from home)

Well whilst I take my anorak off and put my warmer one on to go train spotting let me know how you compare, who get about the most and who is prepared to go furthest (for a freestyle)

Are you sure you wanna do this?? This is just my MJ list. I've done a bit of some other stuff, but I'll just leave it at MJ!

    Cities/Towns/Villages I've danced in : 83
    Separate venues : 214
Out of those, places I've taught classes : 117

Furthest I've travelled on one day, just to go dancing, about 1500 miles (Sydney to Hamilton, New Zealand). I've also danced and taught at the most northerly and the most southerly ceroc venues in the world (Inverness, Scotland and Invercargill, New Zealand)

My stats, from what I can remember just now, are pretty tame in comparison

    Weekenders: 4 Venues
    MJ: 26 Venues
    WCS: 10 venues

Furthest travelled to a freestyle 1.5 hours

Is this because you're never allowed to return to a venue after your first visit?

p.s. You're welcome back at our venues at any time

Off the top of my head - in 18 or so years, it's more than likely I've missed a few. Again - I'm not counting any venue or weekender more than once. Also - weekenders that were split between more than one venue (of which there have been quite a few) I've only counted the once.

MJ: 31 (that I can remember)
    Lindy / Balboa / Blues: 15
    Salsa: 5
    AT: 3
    Ballroom: 4
    Weekenders/Camps: 28

I was amazed by how many venues I have been to. I have remembered another couple since my post but this all pales into insignificance compared with The Tramp. I doubt he can be beaten

28! Clearly I've still got a long way to go!

MJ venues (classes, freestyles or both): 55
Weekender venues (some venues more than once): 4
Salsa Venues (classes, freestyles or both): 9
Lindyhop venues (classes, freestyles or both): 4
    Other dances: ~5

And I'm still a rubbish dancer

28 is a lot, I've been dancing a good few years and have been to most of the MJ and Swing weekends im this country plus a couple of RnR ones and of course that one in Sweden plus a couple is America but I dont think I can top 28 different ones well done !

Out of interest, which was your fave and why (other than Herräng) ?

Age is a question of mind over matter, if you don't mind, it doesn't matter
    Leroy (Satchel) Paige (1906-1982)

Mickey Mouse's girlfriend, Minnie, made her film debut, along with Mickey, in "Steamboat Willie" on November 18, 1928.
That date is recognized as her official birthday.

I was a little surprised when I got to that figure, and had to count them again. I can't even claim to have been to most of the UK ones though (certainly not the MJ events)
There's one salsa weekender in the mix, the rest are MJ and swing. A few abroad, most in the UK.

I'd love to say DJam, but I'm somewhat biased on that score, so it wouldn't really be a balanced opinion.

OK. Apart from the aforementioned, to date, my favourite UK camp is probably Camp Savoy - very friendly camp, well organised, great teachers, great evening dances, and the most amazing cabaret I have ever seen at a dance camp.

Overall favourite has to be the Snowball in Stockholm, which these days (for me) even beats Herrang for enjoyment - similarly amazing teaching line-up, but no mosquitoes, infinitely better accommodation options, and far better dancing conditions (vast dancefloor, for a start, with good air-conditioning). Less hours of social dancing, admittedly, but I never did have the energy to make the most of Herrang.

Re: Well how many have you tried???

    Weekender/Residentials 4 different venues
Freestyle / Classes 13 different venues
Scottish Champs - not sure whether this fits Weekender or Freestyle, but that adds another 2 venues

Furthest travelled was from Glasgow to Brean which beats Glasgow to London (I think) and was definitely more stressful (Bus, 3 trains and a taxi compared to 2 trains)

Still a novice at this travelling thing, but will acrue another 2 venues between now and the end of January. Beware Edinburgh, Glasgow and London
