I'd definitely placed Susan & Carl in my top 3 as well...I though Susan was much better in the the Blues Open than in the showcase personally.
But definitely well done to Ekow & Anna - they were my top couple.

Re: Breeze 2010 - the aftermath

Enjoyed it but had to leave sunday afternoon due to sever case of man-flu. I don't mind walking back and fro, but it is a bit of an effort to get changed and do so, when its so much easier at SP and camber.

Spent most of the weekend dancing, did a lovely photoshoot with a friend Flo, caught up with some lovely people and had a good laugh. Forgot to do any classes apart from one by N&N.

Am currently of the opinion the main room can get a bit boing boing bouncy circly yanky at times, which is why i prefer the blues room. However all calms down from 2-3 in the main room and lot more space. I know it sounds terrible, but less chance of puling my shoulder or doing an injury if i am not in the main room.

    Chalet was lovely (226)

Yes, I imagine the weather exacerbated the effect.

But it's noticeable that, even in OK weather, having even a small gap between rooms acts as a massive disincentive to move from one to the other. So you get multiple small freestyles instead of one big one.

One of the reasons why I love weekenders is the ability to walk around different rooms, if I am not feeling the vibe I can try another room. Obviously SP is the venue with the best layout but I have always preferred Brean to Camber even though I need to go outside to get to the other venue

I am still heart broken that I need to make a big decision on whether to go to Breeze or the MSO as I really enjoy both events

Re: Breeze 2010 - the aftermath

Well it's been a long time since i've been on here, but It's hard to resist a good aftermath thread.

    The Good:

Expecting a tiny 1 bedroom room like we got last time, but somehow got upgraded to a 2 bedroom with a much better living space than last year.
Sunday afternoon - Mike Ellard's swing set was brilliant, and watching Nigel and Nina go for it was just amazing. I've never seen 2 dancers be given so much space in such a crowded room as the Boudoir that day. Jaw dropping to watch.
The Blues comp - both the dwas and the open were a very high standard and great to watch.
Crazy Shark finally staying in the Blues room till gone 5, despite being knackered and with hurtin feet.
Going to the main room and actually having some fun dances. I can't actually remember the last time I had fun in the main room on any weekender.
The Pub Quiz on Saturday; hilarious comparing, mostly from Karl mucking it up

    The Bad:
Karl and Susie not even placing in the comp. Both phenominal dancers and were a pleasure to watch, but I did agree, Ekow and Anna were amazing and deserved winners.

    The Ugly:
Forgetting to bring spare socks, so had to wash the one pair I did bring, my poor poor shoes.

All in all a great weekend, still very much getting my dance fitness back after hurting my knee near the start of the year, but I survived the weekend, even if my right leg ached all weekend. It was great to see so many old friends again too, and I did have some lovely dances, even though I missed so many people over the weekend! A big thanks to all those that made the weekend so great!

Given most people will have driven several hours to get to the venue,
Is it really too much to spend 3 min walking from one room to the other?
Free overshoes were provided when it was wet

I think most people did indeed see stay in one room but probably because they ether love or hate blues

The main reason I changed rooms was to dance with different partners

I know, strange isn't it? You'd think that a mere few yards wouldn't make a difference, but it does - time and again, if there's even a small delay, it seems to have a big effect on "mingling".

It's a strange thing, but I think it's about "impulse moving" - if there's even a tiny obstacle, people don't move much. Weird, really.

Well, if that were the case, there'd be little changeover in the Blues rooms at places like Camber or Southport - but people are moving around there all the time.

This was the case at LUX, dancers were continually on the move, trying to decide "THE place to be" Personally I did not like it.

It must make it difficult for the DJ to create an atmosphere, if people are continually coming and going

No contest for me. I've enjoyed Breeze both times that I've attended, I love the days spent dancing and socialising in the pub and I have friends that only dance jive/blues not wcs who I absolutely adore dancing with . However, I LOVED MSO. The workshops and cabarets and competitions were of an amazing standard, the hotel rooms were stunning and the price was a bargain plus it included food, Pedro's floors are amazing, and next year the entire event will be based in the hotel.

If Breeze didn't clash with a wcs event then I would go back but, for me personally, I get better value for money from MSO.

That's VERY VERY strange though, as I went to the 'reception' where I was told 'lost property' was and the receptionist said nothing had been handed in but to come back.
I went back twice, including this morning, when the girl on the desk didn't even bother to look, she just said, 'NOTHING' had been handed in.
Which did surprise me somewhat, judging by the piles of clothes, shoes, umbrella's, bags and other random items that were on display in the hall of the last Southport on the Monday morning!
Will write my 'resume' about the weekend later but just on the subject of lost shoes, I cannot tell you how angry I am. I noticed when I got back to the chalet that I had left my 'street' shoes under a chair in the blues room! First chance I had the next day was to go back there and enquire at the bar....I was directed to the main gate 'hut'. There weren't there. Went to reception on my own accord and was told nothing had been handed in! Was gutted, as we left on Monday morning asked at reception again 'nada', went to the hut 'nada', but a woman there did direct me to the Main Store still not there So I left. At no point did anyone direct me to the Blues room and say there was stuff by the stage. Am so annoyed as they were probably sitting there!

Lory who was the 'helpful' guy you spoke to, maybe I will get lucky with him! They were patent stiletto's with a bow on them. The kind of shoes that you would just love to slip in to after a night of dancing

I don't know his name but if you ring 01278 752400 and ask for lost property, he might be the one to pick up the phone

He's in charge of lost property and after his initial look, in the place where everything is 'supposed' to be taken, he rang me back to say there were no shoes
But after I told him what Mr Cool had said, he said he'd go and have another look in 'other' places
He rang back again, to say he'd found the other shoes i'd mentioned but not mine
But he said he'd continue looking (bless him ) and true to his word, he rang back again with the good news!
He said everything had be taken to all the wrong places!

    Good luck!

Actually, I think it's the opposite - you're in constant competition with the other DJs, so you're forced to raise your game accordingly, otherwise you know you'll lose them. Whereas with a lack of mingling, you have more of a captive audience.

But I understand that the constant change of people may have a downside, "atmosphere-wise", if you lose your group friends. It's easier for me, I have no friends.

I much prefer being able to flit between the rooms quickly. And it does feel like you have to make a positive decision to swap rooms if you have to go outside.

From what I've seen on Lory's video on FB, they were awesome!!!

Yes I'm biased, but I was shocked at the results of the Blues Open. I couldn't believe that Susan and Carl didn't even place! The musicality and connection that was displayed was incredible.
If it's the same Suzie Carl was dancing with that he danced with last year, it's kind of understandable. Last year she was dancing pure WCS, with great feeling and musicality, yes - but maybe this year judges have decided that it was an unfair advantage on every other lady competitor. Great as it is to watch WCS, if you are dancing against MJ-based blues couples, of course WCS would look miles and miles better. I would have loved to read that they were at least placed, though - they are both FAB dancers...

Are Carl an Susie the couple numbered 382 in Lory's video?

I am sorry but I have to disagree with this. I was there supporting Susan and Carl this year and last year. On neither occasion was Susan dancing pure WCS during the competitions. I also do not think that WCS would look miles better in a Blues competition. In fact I am pretty sure the rules state that pure WCS is not allowed.
