Killer on the loose - and police news conferences

Every time the UK police do news conferences relating to murder investigations, I can't help but recall the Monkey Dust skit on this (see below).

Somehow the UK police always seem very defensive compared to US police news conferences - who seem to be more open and natural.

Anyway, the search for Moat (now involving 10% of the UK's armed police force, 20 armoured vehicles from Northern Ireland, 3 SAS units, 8 battalions from the Royal Fusiliers, 3 Chieftan tanks, and drones with guided missiles) continues.

The similarity in tone and delivery of these news conferences is strikingly similar. It does make me wonder if the police could improve in some way. I just hope they don't get around to using Atomic Kitten on this one.

I dunno. The threat of having Kerry Katona sent in will prob make him give himself up.

Has anyone managed to listen to the full 8.01 minutes yet? I struggled to get through 3.

Slightly off topic but........There's a very interesting article today on The Independent website about how our media coverage could be the initiating factor when someone goes on a shooting rampage. Well worth a read in my opinion:

nothing new about that fact - the more the media analyse and publicise every aspect of the killers life the more "fame" he gets - psychologists have always said that can encourage copycats. Charlie Brooker covered exactly that topic on his newswipe show - heres the clip ( ).

That police woman looks and acts like Alice Tinker from Vicar of Dibley. Go on...have another look, you'll see what I mean.

They call him a gun maniac after shooting three people.

As they said in the USA that’s the standard number that get shot in a high school reunion.

I am surprised he is still on face book. I suupose they want to know who has had a look .

Anyway its doing the nation no international favours that we can’t find him

When they release the ‘True Story Movie' I assume they will find him camping in the back yard of the local Police station.

Anyway it gives our elite forces some good training

Well it wasn't Kerry, but Gazza did roll up in Rothbury..............

    (from the Independent):

And then, into all this, wandered (blundered, some might say), the figure of Paul Gascoigne, Geordie laddo, football and nightclub legend, and recovering alcoholic. He told a local radio station that he had brought Moat "a can of lager, some chicken, a mobile phone and something to keep warm". He added: "I have come all the way from Newcastle to Rothbury to find him, have a chat with him. I guarantee Moaty won't shoot me. I am good friends with him." Police did not let him through.

I think Gazza wanted to make sure he was still the most mental person in Newcastle.

I love the fact that when the paper called Gazza's agent, his agent replied "He's doing what??!!! "

Yeah, well, and the fact that he'd blinded a police officer. Not to mention the small matter of murder, threats and assaults.
