Ended up getting a Sony Cybershot HX5. Seemed to get good reviews and got a good deal on it. Easy enough to use, but also looks like it will give me some stuff to play with if I feel like it.
I'm getting a new camera and the range and array of options is a bit bewildering!
I don't need an SLR and I want something small and easy to carry around. Basically that I can take anywhere to capture moments as I see them, but I also one that is a good holiday camera, and that I can take indoor shots at parties or social occasions. I don't need too many really complicated features but I would like some controllable settings.
Went through reviews online with a friend last night and these are some of the ones we've shortlisted to look at. Would appreciate any feedback if anyone has/knows about any of these, or has any other makes/models they think I should take a look at?
Canon IXUS 120 IS
Canon Powershot SX200
Panasonic Lumix DMC - TZ7

only $50,000
Comes complete with white gloves.... quite cool - and very designer!
Funny looking back at this thread, just under two years ago and I was purchasing a digital P&S... today I bought a 24-70 f2.8...
Phwoar, is it just me, or does anyone else think that's one sexy machine? Trouble is, I wouldn't want to use it, I just want to keep opening the box, to stroke and sniff it!![]()
The funny thing is, in the 'making' film, it would appear that 'patting' the case, is an essential part of the operation! lol
Congrats on the 24-70.. its my favourite lens![]()

May be I should not have sold my old leica f but that was nearly 50 years ago

Yeah you wouldn't want to actually use it in case it got scratched or damaged. I see one of the sets comes with a nice bag to carry round in, so they do expect people to get it out of the box sometimes lol!
Its like that Ferrari Hassleblad - would anyone actually shoot with it?
I understand why! So far had it at a freestyle and tonight tried it out in a studio... its fab!
I saw some photo's taken by a guy, who claimed to be something like an 'Urban documentary photographer', using a Hassleblad.. If I'm being totally honest, if I hadn't known they were taken with it, I'd have guessed they were taken by a complete novice, with a cheap compact, no lie!
If I had something that cost that amount and was such a status symbol. I'd be ashamed to post anything, if it wasn't worthy of an award!
I don't suffer that sort of pressure with my 550D![]()

By the way, something that might amuse you all...
this week, I've been employed to repeat a job I did last year, taking photos for a school, that's basically set up as a last chance saloon, for delinquent teenagers
Yesterday, I was called a 'bitch' and 'pedofile', asked if I worked for Al Queda, asked if I fancied sex with a boy, who incidentally looked about 11 and every sentence, anyone utters has at least 3 swear words in it...
Anyway, I got one kid to kind of cooperate, saying what if we try to do some 'cool stuff' infront of this graffiti etc.
And about a minute later, a kid shouted to another one in a smirking tone... What a joke, we got some white woman, who's ***pushing 40*** trying to take 'Cool' pics
Ha ha, ***pushing 40 huh?***, made my day!
Only two more days to go![]()
