    Just a friendly reminder....

    to all men...

BLACK DANCE SHOES, DO NOT GO WITH SHORTS!

Neither do sandals with socks, formal brown shoes or boots!

If you 'have to' wear shorts, make sure they are LONG and you wear Deck shoes, plimsoles or sneakers

    and lots of deodorant!

I love the sentence "If you have to wear shorts"

As the official fashion police can't you just get them banned? Then there will be no problems about what to wear them with.

perhaps it's just me as a ceroc outsider but a thread about dress sense on a ceroc forum is a little ironic. I mean, what passes for acceptable attire , from BOTH male and female dancers boggles the mind.

Just go to any party event to see a bewildering array of outfits that wouldn't look out of place on a Cuban Drug dealer/pimp or a lady of ill repute from the seedier side of Downtown NY !

Whilst fully in agreement with your main premise I have to exclaim:

Oh Lory Dory, I really do hate long baggy shorts (Bermudas they used to call them) - especially those flavour of the moment combat versions with copious floppy pockets. Almost without exception they serve only to reveal the most unappetisingly pallid sticklike nether limbs, often with a simianesque covering of black hair. Ugh.

(It's a bit like jogging - the most unlikely people do it.)

I do wish I were young enough and bold enough to turn up in proper short shorts of the type I sported in days gone by. Year round cycling ensured good definition and a healthy tan. And, yes, I did have a pair of those ballet inspired racing shorts as well - but that would be going too far.

No, don't. In the long term you'll wreck your knees. Stone coloured lightweight dance shoes are available and short socks can be worn with short shorts.

(Somewhere I have a photo of me in my tennis outfit - not that I ever played more than once.)

Middle aged men in skin tight shorts????

Even as a bloke I find this a little off-putting.

As an aside what shoes are the most appropriate? I have worn the same black and whites with a wooden heel for 12 years.

No, please don't, it still looks pants.

I think what Lory was suggesting was the type of sneakers that are actually dance shoes with suede soles (like Aris Allen sells), or those shoes above with stick on suede/leather soles.

Those look like the shoes I had in mind *. But in deference to the sensibilities of the male model I'll make no further comment

    * They're great.

The guy who is making/selling these shoes sometimes dances at the tango mango. He decided to develop his own range because he couldn't find the kind of shoes he wanted to dance in. I really hope they are a success for him, he was trialling them at some of the mangos.

    Noooo so wrong

Oh and just add into that, the sweat factor; nothing more appealing than a sweaty hairy leg as you dance in a close move

A friend has a pair of these, and loves them to distraction - so much so, that I've just ordered some myself, and they're awaiting collection at the post office (they arrived the day after I ordered them). If anyone's interested, I'll post some thoughts when I've had a chance to take them out for a spin.

    Oh for God's sake.

Men: just don't wear shorts, OK?

If you really think it's too hot for you to wear a light pair of trousers, then don't dance.

    Problem. Solved.

I think part of the problem is that a lot of men think that trousers that feel comfortable to dance in during the winter and still going to be fine when the temperature really soars and when they discover this isn't the case the default panic option is shorts. There is such a thing as summer trousers - I find that linen trousers are really good (as sold in any half way decent clothing shop).
