    BSc - in Homeopathy?

    Apparently, it's all true:
BBC NEWS | Health | Alternative therapy degree attack

I hate to get all Barry Schnikov, but what the hell is any university doing giving a science degree in homeopathy?

For example, here's a course outline from the University of Central Lancashire.

Why not give a science degree in creationism? Or in any nutty belief system, come to that?

Where else would they teach the professionals who work in the NHS's homeopathic hospitals?

    Re: BSc - in Homeopathy?

    I'm... puzzled, really.

I don't know enough about the UK university system, but don't you guys have a higher authority that delivers authorisations / accreditations for degrees ?

Of course there's a market for homeopathy and homeopathy courses, and there probably are some run in France by private organisations, but we would never (or is that wishful thinking ) have an official, state approved (i.e. a 'BSc' which we call 'licence') degree in homeopathy...

So while you could get trained up as a 'homeopath', the 'degree' you would get through those private organisations would never be recognised as a 'proper' (i.e. in line with the university system) degree.

Or does it mean that in this country I can run a BSc in 'Villainess' if there's a market for it? i.e. the history of Villains, Properties of a Villain, Villains war techniques, Villain philosophy, Top 10 tips to be the best Villain... I'll need some teachers to help me run my course

That's what most of the uproar is about Caro.
Some universities and high up academics have complained to the QAA (the governing body for qualifications) and the QAA have rejected the complaints.
So these are genuine, bona-fide, pucker half-baked degrees

I guess my concern is that, (in this country) it seems that the presence of the homeopathy market alone is sufficient to justify the existence of state-approved science degrees (I don't deny it is sufficient to found more research, it's the degree part I disagree with). Me thinks you've all lost your (scientific) souls to the Dark Market Forces, which are all driven by Evil Advertisement, Tabloids and Public Gullibility

Yeah - and to be fair, they're not exactly from the top rank of universities either - university of Central Lancaster?

But this is a consequence of Labour's dumbass decision to send the world and his wife to university (the 50% target) - it means that you get, shall we say, a certain amount of differentiation between different degrees and different universities.

Probably - and frankly it'd be a damn sight more useful, and more productive to society in general, than a degree in Hmeopathy

I couldn't agree more, it's just devaluing the whole education system. What's next, a degree in envelope licking?

Degrees are not as respected and sought after as they used to be.!!! - they are easily obtained and not that difficult.

Well he scored a "plum" role in Sex in the City ..well at least his namesake did.. IIRC?

Mind you there's a big difference between MJ and Ballet.. so how he got to here is anyone's guess.. perhaps he thought they said "Belly" dancing

You don't think Mihail would be good at MJ? I reckon he would.
