Today the sun sets locally at 6:19 and rises again 11 hours and 57 Minutes later - we are now in the time of year when days are longer than nights
So happy vernal equinox & a happy St Patrick's day to anyone from The Emerald Isle
Post was on 17th
The 20th is the day when the sun crosses the equator however the point when the local Equinox (time of equal night) is reached varies - in Bristol we reached the point where daylight exceeded night a couple of days ago. Today the sun rose at 6:13 and sets at 6:22 - 12 hours and 9 minutes of "day"
My astronomy knowledge is perhaps a tad rusty, but isn't this true everywhere in the Northern hemisphere on the same day?
The actual times of sunset/sunrise will differ, and day lengths will vary from place to place but I don't think where you are makes a difference to which day the equinox arrives?
Love dance, will travel
Having had a look at this appears not

Always thought for 1 day it is 12hr day and night
The sight although very interesting doesnt explain why
Even in the southern Hempishere there is more daylight until cira 25th march.
Must be due to refractive qualities of the atmosphere
