    Ceroc STORM (Camber) Aftermath

    Great weekend.

For once we had a decent chalet, with working shower, no rattling windows, heaters that worked. It was great. Of course this made the gaffer tape and heaters we'd brought redundant

Finishes at 3, 5, 5am made for very little sleep but lots of lovely dances with Rachel P, Lory, Minnie, Hazel and a raft of others.

Highlights, a dance with Val that put a huge smile on both our faces on sunday night, dancing to club thing with flo who I hadn't seen since Xmas at Newbury (and about 5 others), super fast tracks with Lindsey and Gaiel? Talking in the sunshine Sun afternoon with friends Donna and Rachel.

Veronika's sat morning class was excellent. Tess and Pauls fast and furious class - you know you are in for a workout when Candyman is the warm up slow track was great and of course the Double Trouble, which I've never done before was immense fun and a hugely enjoyable experience.

Also a true pleasure to watch Tony and Hayley dancing to Black Eyes Pump it on sunday during my breather. Man those guys go fast and H body roll/ripples should be trademarked they're that good. Nice to see her get stolen by a chap I don't know the name of, T to wait 30 seconds before stealing the bloke and kicking H out (making the guy dance as the girl) and then H steal back and make T dance as a girl.

Favourite track of the weekend Club Thing.

Cabaret was longer and worth it, just for listening to Mike E going Take a bow Take a bow Take a bow, bend over, Thank you when the lady's were dressed in traditional latin costumes at the end of the fashion show.

Issues: I either need to get a t-shirt made up that says " No I don't do WCS I just jive in a very slotted way" or I should really go and find someone who teaches WCS and learn it.

    Re: Ceroc STORM (Camber) Aftermath

I had a brilliant time at Storm, despite the cold - we hadn't been able to get a club booking this time round, so we feeding the electricity meter to try and get the chalet warm and using 2 duvets plus blankets each at night. Bonus though was the electric shower which meant a lot of money & time saving vs Southport where you had to permanently be heating the water up.

    Great:
    • I loved pretty much all the music I heard in both main & blues room. Lots of tracks I'd not heard before, and I didn't hear much repeating of tracks by the different DJs.
    • Some amazing dances, and lovely compliments.
    • Catching up with people I don't often see, and those that I do who were there in our big crowd
    • Watching Paul Warden & Sarve dancing - couldn't take my eyes off them
    Good:
    • Cabaret was more enjoyable than some of the others I've seen, and the street/hip hoppers were brilliant - it was great to see them getting up and dancing with everyone.
    • Gender balance didn't seem too bad - I managed to get dances with people I was looking for, plus had a few surprise ones (good surprises!)
    • Bumping into someone I'd met at a hen do/wedding 3 years ago, and having a good old natter
    Bad:
    • The entertainment from the singers went on too long for me. Too much of the same sound - glad I had the option of the other room.
    • My travelling buddy and 1 of the 4 in our chalet being ill and having to pull out of the weekend.
    Classes:
Classes I particularly enjoyed were Adam Brown's F Words, Jamie McGregor's Ducks & Spins, Rob May's Old Skool and Richard & Zoe's hot new moves - had some lovely changes of pace (plus I had a lovely fixed partner to practice with).

Paul & Tess' fast & furious had great moves, but personally I think the 2 counterbalance moves would be more suitable for slower tracks.

Overall, I thought it was a great weekend, possibly the best weekender I've been on...not sure 1 of my chalet mates would agree, but I think it's all a matter of state of mind beforehand and what you're looking for/how you make it.

    Re: Ceroc STORM (Camber) Aftermath

Journey was fine 4 hrs 30 mins no jams.

Friday (my worst night) was surprisingly good, there didn’t seem the ‘newbie’s’ walking across the dance floor with drinks or just standing chatting on the floor the way we normally have on a Friday, so no arguments.

Felt a bit guilty Maddie stopped in the apartment studding on Friday while I and Joe trotted of to dance.

Saturday, got in the pub at 12 noon and Ian from London was doing his Sack the DJ set, OMG Ian your just fab, by 12.10 I was on fire. Top bloke.

Pub quiz was packed 17 teams……..

Then SFunk in the blues room, it just flew couldn’t believe it when it ended, I probably shouldn’t have shouted ‘MORE’ at the end, everyone else started shouting more, Sorry Tony I didn’t mean to sabotage your class.

    Saturday Cabaret.

I’m not sorry I’m going to be boring, but yes I loved the Motown tribute singer,
The fab young lady singer (sorry I can’t remember her name) what a voice. Respect.

Nice to dance to live music for a change

The Fashion show was lovely to watch, we probable only needed one showing of the garments not twice, not sure who there target audience is ? The clothes were fab and the people modelling were beautiful, but a cross section of age range shape and size might attract more customers, not to mention giving some people help with what to wear, have to say there were some VERY bad examples over the weekend of ‘what not to wear’ this might sound bitchy, but I was shocked at one particular look, I have never seen anything so unflattering in all my dance dancing.

The hip hop lads were brilliant, couldn’t wait to get my hands on them, lovely guys , they were gutted they had to leave for work the next day, they had a whale of a time.

Team Cabaret was good, Alex Faulkner and Kelly Danks are looking soooo ‘Hot’ Alex you naught little monkey, lifting Kelly’s skirt to the audience! Lol

Sunday ‘swing hour’ I thought there weren’t going to be may people there, it was packed we would have been better in the blues room.

A couple of comments from people not on the forum, ‘the reason I like Southport is coz I can dance all day, I don’t want Karaoke or a pub quiz’

Perhaps the organisers could jiggle the schedules around so when the quiz and Karaoke is on there is freestyle dancing in the blues room giving people the option.

    Bad bits

I was cold, I could not get warm there were fans all over the place, I could not escape them, when the numbers dropped and the music was slower late on in the blues room the fans were blasting out, OMG I was sooo cold.

Making a complete chump of myself in the restaurant Sunday afternoon, while chatting and walking backwards I tripped over one of the chairs and ended up sprawled on the floor, one lady gave me a disappointing score of ‘4’ very quick and funny it took the edge of my embossment………….the children thought it was very funny enough it wasn’t THAT funny.

    The Good,

Aston Ellard was just lovely, he made Maddie’s weekend, she’s not into dancing and spending time with him gave her something to do.

Paul Warden thank you for my dances, your sooo funny, looking good Hun.

Nice to see & dance with some surprises faces, Pete Fradle and CJ

Big thank you to all the people looking out for and dancing with Joe, Sarve, Colleen, Paul Warden, & James

see you at VLV get your paddle sticks at the ready.

    Re: Ceroc STORM (Camber) Aftermath

Not having done a weekender since Breeze in October I was really looking forward to Storm and it exceeded my expectations. It had a happy buzzy feel to it.

From the minute I arrived to see faces I only see at dance weekends together with all my favourite dancers from various venues all in one place.....I was whooping and yay'ing the whole time.

I had some a-m-a-z-i-n-g dances, not going to name names cos I don't want to miss anyone out but hopefully if they worked for me .... they worked for you too

Unintentionally stumbled upon the 'Hot New Moves' workshop taken by Alex Faulkner which was fabulous, stayed as a mixed partner (which really helped...thank you Phil dB ).

Marc and Rachel I salute you both for two fabulous Milongas.....I had some memorable Tangos ... I did things I didn't know I could do .....and the tea/coffee and biscuits were very welcome

Was on the winning team for the Saturday quiz......well done to us. Shared lunch with new friends, got to know others better. It was brilliant.

Only two things that would of made it better......a shower with a little bit of pressure wouldn't of gone amiss and also that damn air conditioning it was freezing in the dance rooms at times! Although both of those things are not directly in the control of 'Ceroc'.

.............and I didn't even take breaks to stand outside in the cold to have a cigarette .... so had even more dancing time this time

........talking of which if anyone has a copy of the group photo of the last people standing from Monday morning would love to see it

I did the -INT classes as a fixed couple with Jack - there were soooooooooooo many men over never known so many - is it because the women think they are too good for that level ????

I thought breaking the INT down by three ( -INT, INT & +INT) a great idea - just dont understand where all the women went. Rob May's class (which was brilliant) but had nearly 30 men over

Every class I did had men over (int & adv classes). But I did think that the rotations were working better this time than on previous weekenders.

    Re: Ceroc STORM (Camber) Aftermath

Had a lovely weekend, did not quite hit the mark as much as Southport but Sunday night more than made up for that.

    Good
Winning the quiz on Saturday, our team ‘The return of the porn stars’ unsurprisingly did rather well on the porn round

Saturday afternoon in the pub, great music, great fun

Sunday afternoon in the blues room Sally’s set just hit the spot, the only downside was having to vacate the blues room because there was a class in there straight after

Sunday night in Blues room had one of my best nights for a long time was just superb, music was wonderful; Locoman's (Garry)set was my favourite but enjoyed all the music and fab dances made it through to the end and to the ‘survivors photo’

Having a warm chalet (we were in a club), in fact sunnybunny described it as tropical but it was nicely warm for me

    Bad
Forgetting my satsumas and then finding that camber seemed to be a fruit free zone.

Friday night ending at 5am, just was not ready to stop

Saturday night just did not do it for me especially the earlier part until about 4ish was just too upbeat and occasionally bland but having said that did not leave until after 6am so can’t have been that bad, maybe I just too picky.

Sunday in the pub just too crowded trying to dance on the dance floor, think this is where Camber loses out to Southport where daytime dancing is concerned.

Lending my fire that I brought with to someone who was in a cold chalet, and then them leaving and not returning my fire.
    .........
Yet another good weekend not my best but still good. Thanks to everyone I danced with and all those that I chatted to and laughed with that make my weekenders so special

    VERY RANDOM THOUGHTS

Your right, (it was all I could manage to write earlier) it was an absolute corker!

I was on a high the whole weekend!
The only thing is, for me, there's never enough time to do everything I want to do... go to all the parties, dinner and breakfast invites and freestyle all night, as well as do the quizzes, karaoke and more daytime freestyle, ANDSLEEP..
After these years, I still haven't managed to work correct formula out, so sleep tends to get forgotten!

Not one person I spoke to was having a miserable time and good vibes spread!

I think all the DJ's were brilliant this weekend, especially Gary Turner, (Locoman) the man's a legend and even the other DJ's I spoke to, all hold him in high esteem!
And the sack the DJ spots were awesome too, big up to Colin (flip-flop man), he made me roll up by finishing his set with Crazy Horses by the Osmonds.. Yes, very odd but it worked at the time!
Also, I have to mention the petite Indian lady (I'm sure she's the same one I mentioned at SP) who I meant to go and congratulate.. she was awesome!

Tango - I arrived at the tango about half an hour into the session, to be pleasantly shocked by how many people were there... and not just women, lots of FAB men too! I can't believe how much its catching on!

One amazingly weird thing, I've been to Camber quite a few times but what are the chances of me staying in the same chalet... not once but at least 5 times? And I'm going back to the days of Franco! Sadly it hasn't changed much but it was nice and close and that's all that matters to me really! It can ruin my weekend having to walk too far in the cold!

Pub quiz - Our Team 'The porn stars', consisting of SunnyBunny, Jay Jay, Maxine, Rob May, Me and another couple, (who I'm embarrassed to say I can't remember their names ) WON!

I'd like to thank Rachel (a fellow freezer) for going around and turning the fans off in the COZ, she shares my pain! I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who gets freezing!

Chalet mates - it was the first time i'd shared with these girls and we got on like a house on fire - it was a laugh a minute!

Breakfast - Me and my chalet mates had the honour of being invited to one of Zimbabweans legendary breakfasts and WOW, now I understand!

The Hip-hop team - I didn't see the cabaret but suddenly spotted a few funky looking guys dancing 'alone' in the Blues room and I thought.. ooh ooh, I've got to have me a piece of that! So I did the friendly thing and grabbed one for a dance.. I'm not quite sure what you'd call the dance but 'I' had a good time anyway!
Then totally spontaneously, they started to do a funky line dance, which some of us 'keen groupies' learnt 'off the cuff' and joined in
I spoke to a couple of them, who confessed they'd really love to get into partner dance! I can't wait!

Dances - Every night was great but Sunday night was the best, I managed to stay nicely tidally all night, not drunk but just very very happy and helps me overcome my shyness!

    Can't wait till Southport!

    Re: Ceroc STORM (Camber) Aftermath

    The Bad
The boudoir was full, the music was Fab, Colin (Aka Mr Flip flop) was playing a blinder of a set with loads of punters dancing. This all stopped and we had to have Ceroc Karaoke. A real bad move and there were lot’s of very unhappy dancers.

    The really bad
Having a pretty good soul singer, his opening track was “The Love I Lost” , what a track but the backing tape / music was so tinny. To me it killed a great track. I thought the idea was great just please, please ensure that the backing music is top quality.

    The Good
Meeting up with lots of dancers that I only see at weekenders.

    The Great
The sack the DJ spot has found a real treasure in a new DJ, DJ Flip Flop aka Colin. Some franchisee must sign him up. I really enjoyed his set.

    The Really Great
Getting through my first Sack the DJ slot, I was trembling while Foxy and Zebra Women were teaching me how to use the system.
It was amazing to enjoy hearing your own selection of music on a proper sound system while others were dancing to it. Thank you to all the MJ’ivers who gave me so much great honest feed back.

Lastly a big thank you to all the DJ’s in the Blues room, as usual they all played great sets.

one word describes storm 2010 wow
i didnt hear a single complaint about anything but the temperature in the various zones
personaly i had an amazing time each and every dj in the chill out room played some of the best "must dance" tracks in the world of MJ
I honestly couldnt leave the dance floor till the last track was played each night sadly this meant that i didnt get a lot of sleep ( 5 1/2 hours over the entire weekend) when marc forster anounced that he was supposed to stop at about 5:30 am on monday morn only to say he would play on there was a huge cheer and i am really pleased to say i was in the last people standing photo taken by carl adams not sure whos camera he used (need a copy please someone)
so here is a very happy aching from head to toe sleep deprived dancer

    Re: Ceroc STORM (Camber) Aftermath

Hi all, first post in a looong time...

Just wanted to say that I had one of the best weekenders in a long time... had a great time at Southport, but I think the buzz I got from the cabarets on Saturday put me on an all time high

It's been ages since I have taught a performance class but had a great time doing it and loved the performance, it all came together excellently. So from me, I would just like to say a HUGE THANK YOU AND WELL DONE to all the people in the performance cabaret

All the other cabarets were brilliant too, best cabaret hour I have seen in ages, but then I have missed a couple.

Other than that, good laughs, great times, and it was also good to get Emma Pettitt back on the weekenders too

Definitely feeling it now though, but at least I can say that I'm still buzzing and still have a smile on my face
