    Re: Snow...

I have just been out for the most wonderful walk across fields to my local pub and I have to say, the snow was the perfect consistency, pure while and fluffy, the type that doesn't make your feet wet

So, my bad feelings towards snow, have been somewhat lifted today

I don't want anymore before Christmas though

I've had good and bad winter experiences today.

I went for a regular walk along a local towpath - we were later than usual and ended up doing the return walk in the moonlight. Wow! Snow, river and moonlight - it was simply stunning! We set up my phone on a bench, put some music on and danced blues and tango in the snow under the moonlight... And reached the pub just before it started to snow heavily so got to watch it falling over the river while having a nice warm cuppa.

But later on the way to a Carol Service my car got stuck on ice, wheels spinning and it took my passenger and two passers by about 20 mins to manage to push me out! Candlelit carols and mulled wine was worth it though!

Granted. But it does point out the relative rarity of the event based on the 25th being right at the beginning of Winter. Plus (and here I am/was in error), I meant to specifically state London, which is not common.

Luckily for me, I'm now off work til January 4th so me, Gav and the kids are going sledging today over at High Beach in Epping Forest. Great fun, lots of exercise and completely free.

I had the same thing last year couple of days after Christmas, snow, ice and freezing cold and no boiler until I could get a new one for 2 weeks. It was hell! Hope you get yours fixed soon

    Re: Snow...

Seriously, snow is fun when you're 10 and hoping that your school's gonna be closed so you can go out and throw snowballs.

Snow when you're an adult is nothing but a pain in the butt:

    - Roads become at best a slow trudge, and at worst dangerous or impassable
    - Public transport all but grinds to a halt
    - All the events you planned to go out to get cancelled
    - At Christmas it completely scuppers you from going to see or being visited by older family who simply cannot get out of their own driveways, let alone drive down the road
    - You have to listen to the umpteenth person who obviously has not a care in the world say "Oh but it's sooo sooo pretty!"

If you love snow that much, move to Greenland.

If I had absolutely no responsibilities, was retired, and didn't care one jot about getting to see my family, I'm sure I'd love it to bits. Sadly, I live in the real world!

Who says I'm bitter? I love my life and the people round me, thank-you very much! And I'd love it if my lifestyle wasn't jettisoned because of some white stuff falling on the ground. Apparently some people really do have enough a care-free enough life that they can sit back and enjoy it.

So, it's flakey stuff for flakey people!

It seems I owe you an apology.

I hadn't realised that my liking snow actually made it snow and disrupted your life.

Seriously though. Sh1t happens and you either whine about it, make things worse by trying to carry on as normal, or you change your plans and make the most of it.

Ooooh, got in before your edit. Never mind

Not really, I chose not to edit or delete it because the intent of my post is still valid.

I would love to say "it's fine and dandy, I'll do XYZ another day" - unfortunately a lot of us don't really have a choice when we have to get to work, or are cut off from someone who needs us, or have to go out and get basic food essentials.

You could argue most of these problems exist because we live in such a mobile society now - we're all used to being able to travel miles and miles and live great distances apart from family and friends because of fast transport. Small wonder it causes such havoc when snowfall happens now.

That's what you get for choosing the modern life - perhaps we should all return to being local-minded folk who barely venture out of own villages/towns.

Anyhoo, I choose to stand by my right to have a good old moan because the snow bloody well pisses me off.

Your line "You have to listen to the umpteenth person who obviously has not a care in the world say "Oh but it's sooo sooo pretty!"" is pure bitterness. Yeah, theres snow. Yeah, theres too much. Yeah, its inconvenient. Yeah it affects your daily routine. Boo Hoo. Its not about sitting back and enjoying it, its simply not bitching about it like a whiny...erm...bitch and finding a positive.

See, an example of a not-bitter attitude.

Usually the snow IS actually quite pretty.
