Prince Philip gaffes again... or not

Stephen Menary was blinded whilst an Army cadet in an IRA bombing.
In 2002, he was invited to meet the Queen and Prince Philip. The Queen asked him how much sight he had left and Prince Philip interrupted with "Not a lot, judging by the tie he’s wearing."
It seems that, once more, everyone is disgusted at his behaviour and having a dig. I thought it very funny and I don't see what all the fuss is about.

I think it's funny too. Nobody should be embarrassed. However, if anyone were to feel guilty it should be the person who told him the tie was OK.

    I think it's funny too!

Maybe they should try asking Stephen - if he wasn't bothered, what's all the fuss about?

Reminds of when I went to see Stevie Wonder earlier this year and he wore the most diabolical shirt and I said to my friend only a blind man could wear that shirt, and thought that all his crew were saying yeah Stevie you look great but thinking OMG

They did, he wasn't offended. It's just that the press like to have a go at famous people.

Today they're having a go at him because at the Royal Variety Performance, he met Australian Comedian Adam Hills, and suggested that he could smuggle a bottle of Gin out of the country in his prosthetic foot.
When Adam Hills was asked to comment, he said it was "Brilliant".

no, a bottle would take up extra room. You have a hollow foot with a screwtop - sorted.

So they're complaning now about a comment he made seven years ago.

I saw one website saying she "broke her silence", presumably after it had been eating away at her for every day of those past seven years?

Apparently they were on the Paul O'Grady show(or similar?) recently and mentioned it.

Careful reading of the thread does not reveal to which 'she' you may be referring. The two - um, objects - of Prince Philip's remarks appear to be male...

    Must've been the Queen then.

(the article seems to suggest that it was the Army Cadet's mum who brought it up).

I'm reminded of a guy who worked for me many years ago. He'd been blinded in the RAF. After a few years his sight returned a bit and I took him on as a packer.

He told me that attractive women went for men with white sticks. When I asked him how he knew, he said his RAF mates told him that the girls were stunning. This guy was particularly unattractive as he had huge boils on his face and neck - my guess was that these 'girls' weren't actually free of charge and were funded by generous friends of a wounded soldier

You can have no character, or you can make light and make jokes... All jokes can be taken two ways..

I think, good on you Prince Phillip...

At least you try to add humour, and put people at ease.

It is the press trying to get headlines...
