Collectively yes, but if someone walks into a room with no atmosphere it's hardly their fault for not bringing it with them

If you are not enjoying weekender's then look to your own input and see if there are any changes you could make to better the experience.
Perhaps wear a hat? Go nude? Punch someone really smug? Or hand out free money thus improving your own enjoyment by making everyone else temporarily happy. Hmmm, maybe someone doesn't enjoy a weekender for reasons that are not actually their fault...just a thought!

There are about a dozen, or so, people on this Forum, who have forgotten that we are Social Dancers only.
Speak for yourself, because you can't speak for anyone else. Who are these dozen people anyway ?

These constant Ceroc bashers seem to think that technically perfect dancing is the only thing that matters, anything less is just horrific and below them.
Occasional negative opions of Ceroc events does not equate to a negative opinion of Ceroc overall - also where are these arrogant people that think anything less than perfect dancing is beneath them?

...it's David Bailey isn't it? but seriously, give us some examples rather than whinging about it, whilst complaining about whingers!

That's where, if you want to try again, you need to learn from your experience and change your expectations for next time, or adapt to the situation you find yourself in. Was Skegness your first and only?

At Skegness in September I didn't bother to go out at all on the Friday night thinking that I'd save myself for the Saturday. I also decided that needing to blow my nose frequently and apply anti-bacterial hand gel every time was not conducive to doing classes, so decided to focus on daytime dancing. Disaster! There was hardly anyone in the blues room when I went over, I had one dance with a friend and was then ignored by everyone else. After an hour or so of sitting on my own, I walked out and went to the beach and called Beo in tears and was sorely tempted to leave then and drive back to London! Instead I decided to calm down and go into Skegness and have a wander round. Bought some lovely candlesticks and some jewellery, then came back and made the best of the rest of the weekend. Sunday day I took myself off site again during the day. Although the weekend wasn't what I'd hoped, I made of it what I could. However, like Fletch I didn't like sharing the site with non-dancers and so won't do another one there, no matter what the hype on here.

Have a think about what you'd like to get out of a weekender dance-wise and focus on that, but be prepared to adapt if things don't happen quite as you expect.

DS my lover you have answered your own questions in your post.

Some of the other 11 include, my opinion only mind pips, **** **** **** and **** to name a few.

DS baby do not take this as me having a pop at you, as I actually enjoy some of your posts, but you do seem to have a negative view of Ceroc. Now I am sure if we sat down at the next weekend run by Ceroc we would get on like a house on fire.

The cat is amongst the pidgeons here pips.

Note to everyone....If you feel the need to neg/pos rep me include your name, if you have the moral fibre that is. xxx

Most people go to these weekenders and kind of expect the accommodation to be rubbish and just think of it as a place to get a few hours kip in between dancing. If you really can't stand slumming it, there are loads of other weekends you can go on with excellent accommodation.

There have been hotel based weekenders around for a while and they seem to be increasing too. OK so they cost a little more, but you get the better accommodation that you wanted.

I remember some folk from NI who went to Blaze, decided within a few hours that they didn't like the accomodation and packed up and left. I think it does help to not have high expectations of the accomodation in the first place, but we don't go on dance weekenders to spend much time the accomodation anyway.

That first Storm in the really grotty, damp chalet... I had a fabulous weekend.

Poor CRM had me wittering on about how fab weekenders are and raising expectations, which probably didn't help.

In what way? Did I fall into some sort of a trap? I have no major complaints about any weekenders, I have enjoyed them all. In fact the last weekender I went to I ended up making money on the trip overall, not that that would colour my opinion too much - I remain unbiased with all my own hair and teeth.

Some of the other 11 include, my opinion only mind pips, ****, **** ****and ****
To name 4 in fact, thats not many out of 12 - or 11 ... hey did you mean ME . Also, I don't read any of these people as the whinging super-elite dance snob ceroc bashers you want to paint them as. Well, except straycat obviously Is there something wrong with people having an opinion on things that isn't always positive?

David Bailey would never, IMHO, be included with the elite Ceroc bashers, as he was a clever and humorous poster who had a balanced view on life.
Is he dead ? Thats an obituary line if ever there was one. And these Elite Ceroc Bashers, do they only bash elite cerocers ? because surely thats a good thing ?

DS baby do not take this as me having a pop at you, as I actually enjoy some of your posts, but you do seem to have a negative view of Ceroc.
I don't know why you get that impression, I most certainly do not have a negative opinion of Ceroc*. As for not having a pop at me - I hadn't considered you were until you suggested it just now by including me in your 12 untouchables list

I promise at the next Ceroc weekender I go to, I will wear a t-shirt with the words "Shun Me" on it.

    * I don't even have a negative opinion of Rocky, he just talks nonsense sometimes

DS baby on the next weekend wear a t shirt with DS on it, I will then buy you a pint and a bag of peanuts.

As for naming only 4 Ceroc bashers, my humblest apologies for being imperfect.

Re: Weekenders - What's all the fuss about??

I'm pretty fussy about where I sleep, - I wasn't expecting much at Camber, - but my chalet mate and I thought it was alright!

Kitchen was perfectly functional, bathroom/shower absolutely fine, - decent enough size lounge and the beds "okay'ish". No damp, - and not particularly cold once the heating was on and a hotwater bottle thrown under the duvet.

Perfectly acceptable, for the £££ - i've no complaints. Especially as you don't spend much time in the chalets anyway, as long as you can eat/sleep/shower in them its fine.

I'd say the same about the three different chalets I stayed in at Somerset.

Re: Weekenders - What's all the fuss about??

My first weekender was at Brean Sands and I went by myself and enjoyed it immensely as half the crew turned out to be from my dance area, so I got to know them all a bit better and it rubbed off on others who said hello, the best being from a lovely lady who said

I don't know who you are but the others all seem to know you so I'm xxx, who are you?

Used the forum to meet some other ladies to do Workshops with, so it really is a case of you get what you put in.

Wifey thought I was so enthused after coming back, that she made me get tickets for Southport two weeks later and she loved every minute of that. Booked Storm and two friends have booked with us after seeing how excited I was getting about it, probaly going to do Viva, Lux and Brean next year in addiiton to Storm.

I always ask ladies to dance, I don't understand this moping about business some ladies do. I also try and raid the teachers corner frequently so I can have some lovely dances (for me -poor them) but if they're foolish enough to stand there

    I love them.

Why would I negrep you? I feel quite flattered - I always wanted to be an elite dancer Although if you would point to all these posts of mine where I'm whingeing or being overly negative, I'd be intrigued. I thought I generally tried to look for the positives.

I am, however, surprised to find myself branded as a Ceroc basher. I have no problems with Ceroc as an organisation. I still attend, and enjoy Ceroc nights and freestyles. I regard the Ceroc formula as an impressive one, and I'll always be grateful for the fact that it got me into dancing in the first place, and I've said as much on this forum before. Sure - I have some reservations, but that's true of most things.

I regard myself as a social dancer. I don't compete. I rarely perform, and in general, I prefer not to. I teach, yes, but what I teach, preach, live and breathe is dancing for fun. I simply want to be the best social dancer that I possibly can be. The fact that you and I look at things differently does not mean that I am not a social dancer.

I have, with only one exception, thoroughly enjoyed every single weekender I've attended, and that in that one case it was for personal reasons that I failed to enjoy it.

However... as time has gone on, my dancing has changed, and my needs have changed. I want to improve. I need to improve. And there's a limit to how much I can do that purely by social dancing - so I seek out the best possible environments to suit my own learning.

I have no problem with the fact that Ceroc weekenders & JA weekenders don't provide what I want. I'm not criticising them for it. I'm just explaining why they no longer suit me, and why I don't plan on going to any more. I feel that this is relevant to the thread topic.

The problem is definitely NOT your dancing

I still get tingles from memories about that dance, then there is that one too, and definitely that one

    perfect Lory!

    As for me:

I've only been to 2 of the "Real" Weekenders - Both of the May Blazes (Renovations grr), but I would include Kirrie and Beach Ballroom too.

What I look for in no particular order:

    • Classes on interesting and varied topics, with the Best Teachers in each area
    • The Best DJs
    • Basic accomodation - I only need a roof, warmth, somewhere to sleep, eat and wash.
    • Baking
    • Socialising
    • The Best Freestyle Dancing with friends old, new and not met yet.
    • Blues room open ALL weekend

As for making the most of everything: As an intovert/loner (yes I know I dance like that but hear me out!) I recognise that I need a little space to recover and be on my own (during the weekend) in between all the extrovert dancing..

And I also need to respect my need for sleep - I know it isn't fashionable, but even if I'm in 7th heaven in the blues room I need to respect my body's needs, otherwise I don't dance as well, get grumpy and annoyed and very antisocial (Not pretty!)

Oh and for some reason I work best travelling on my own (or in a very small group), I love socialising while at an event, but I think I need to travel alone - a sort of calm before the storm, and a winding down gently process as it were...

My only weekender booked so far for next year is Breeze, but I'm sure there will be others once I get myself organised. Maybe that is why I still get the buzz... I don't crush my calender full of weekenders - so they are a treat.

    Cheers WT

I know everyone laughs at me about me and my electric blanket but seriously, even if you don't need it at night, like I do, if you put it on as soon as you get there and leave it for a few hours, your bed is lovely and dry. Also, if I have a spare duvet in the chalet, I usually use one to lie on and one to cover me.. (yes, I get seriously cold! )

I agree but for me, I know why..........

It doesn't matter if you've arrived in a private Jet or public transport, if you live in a mansion or a grotty council flat, if your a DJ, a teacher, an ordinary punter or the organiser, we're all in the same boat!

Once your through those gates, your stripped of some of your 'outside' life and that's great leveller and 'can' bring about a sense of camaraderie (sp?)

Its a bit like being sent into the Big Brother house or the Jungle, some enjoy it/cope/adapt better than others.

I am sure there must be some technically perfect weekender's that cater for the elite dancers. If you guys/girls can not find one then why don't you all meet up together and sit around moaning and whining with like minded superior dancers that you are.

You know who you are, if you take offence at this post, guess what, you are one of the elite, technically perfect ars*holes I am referring to.

Bit of advice to you guys. If you put your hand in a fire and it hurts, to relieve the pain, take your hand out of the fire. Look to yourself, for any improvments to weekender's, that the majority of dancers enjoy.

Bit of a rant but most people will get my point.

So there is a feeling of elite dancers in Ceroc.

Now I dance with Marcus everytime we are at a venue together.

Just a quickie pips, lets look at Lory, one of , if not the, best dancer's on the scene. Lory, the same as me, has a no refuse policy, we dance with everyone and everything. So if you think you are an elite dancer compare yourself with Lory, if you think you are better, then you are probably an elite dancer or a dancer off SCD.

Let us name these elite dancers and stab them with sharpened sticks and call rude names to them everytime we see them.

    OMG DON'T look at meeeeee!

DTS my lovely boyo, there are hundreds better than me Yes, I can hold my own but to be honest, as most people who know me will attest, I don't really give a flying fig about what it looks like, its all about the fun for me.
I hate competitions and I don't perform (well, not on the dancefloor anyway )

and just a small point of order, I do NOT dance with 'everything'
