    Hypothetical question about advertising

So there’s this Dance company called Jive Affliction and it’s run by a lovely lady called Joan. Joan is organising what looks like a fabulous dance weekender in a nice hotel, in Somewherechester in Mayberury 2010.

A beautiful and intelligent forumite called Dribble Tumble can’t wait to talk about it on the CSF…little does Frinckz know that Joan at Jive Affliction has handed Dribble Tumble a large brown paper envelope with wads of cash in it, with the proviso that she “Bigs up” Joan and Jive Affliction on the forum.

No one is any the wiser and Jive Affliction’s weekender is sold out and everyone’s a winner!

Then…a dashing, sexy, global success of a DJ called….err…..Bop Devil writes a similar post to Dribble Tumble and within five minutes, the lovely moderator Trigger Happy deletes it.

Obviously this is a purely hypothetical situation, but pray tell…what is advertising and what isn’t? And how do the Moderators know who’s on the pay roll/related or bias to any one company?

    This one is easily answered:

    Hope this helps

Have you got Joans number. I don't mind the brown envelope or some DJ work.

These are the tricky parts, some dancers are friends of organisers but it doesn't mean they are bias toward their events and their posts are artificially manufactured.

Which is why the rules state 'at the discretion of the moderating team'.
In most cases, if there is doubt, the post will not be deleted.

Adverts are actually easy to spot, and in most cases, the people involved are working for the event they are advertising, so, no problem there, though I wonder why some of the repeat offenders, keep trying. Either they see some benefit in the few minutes / hours of exposure of their advert, or they post knowing it will be deleted and can then complain loudly about unfair treatment, that the Forum is biased blah blah...

In the case of 'friends' or 'paid volunteers' this will all depend on the tone of the post, how many times the advertising occurs, whether the 'review' matches reality, etc.
In all cases, the moderators will discuss it privately between themselves before making a decision. Not perfect, but it mostly works.
