    Prostate Cancer: Movember

    Hi,

I am growing a moustache this year for Movember. I have decided to put down my razor for one month (November) and help raise awareness and funds for men’s health – specifically prostate cancer.

Yli is delighted at prospect of one caberet performance and one competition with my Mo!!!! My birthday pics this year aren't gonna be the best either... So, if I can put up with the humiliation, please do sponsor me...

I'm not the best with technology, but shall try to get a pic up asap, probably on FB first...

What many people don’t appreciate is that one man dies every hour of prostate cancer in the UK, more than 35,000 men will be diagnosed this year and that prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK. Facts like these have convinced me I should get involved and I am hoping that you will support me.

To donate to my Mo, you can either:

    • Click this link http://uk.movember.com/mospace/319542/ and donate online using your credit card, debit card or PayPal account
    • Write a cheque payable to ‘The Prostate Cancer Charity - Movember’, referencing my Registration Number 319542 and mailing it to: Movember - The Prostate Cancer Charity, First Floor, Cambridge House, Cambridge Grove, London, W6 0LE.

Movember is now in its third year here in the UK and, to date, has achieved some pretty amazing results by working alongside The Prostate Cancer Charity. Check out further details at: http://uk.movemberfoundation.com/research-and-programs.

If you are interested in following the progress of my Mo, click here http://uk.movember.com/mospace/319542/. Also, http://uk.movember.com has heaps of useful information.

    Thank you

I seem to remember reading that 85% of men currently contract prostate cancer (by their 70s or something as I recall). Although most of those die of something else before the cancer metastasises (gets to the bones), or otherwise spreads.

In other words, men are more likely to die with prostate cancer than from it -an important fact when considering population screening of asymptomatic men.
[Ok, it looks like I exaggerated ... but not by much!!]

My Dad, who has prostate amongst other things, and will, most likely succumb to kidney failure, tells me that the French test all men over 50 as a matter of course. Bearing in mind the above, it sounds like a bl**dy good idea!!

It isn't that simple - the tests currently available are not very reliable so having a test can lead to unnecessary worry and, even worse, unnecessary treatment. That in itself might not be so bad were it not for the fact that the treatments available often have permanent and serious long term side effects. For these reasons most UK doctors advise against having a test as a matter of routine, though obviously it is a personal choice.

It's quite a startling fact that around 50% of men in their 50's already have prostate cancer, but only a very small percentage of these will actually die of the disease because in the majority of cases the cancer is non aggressive, develops very slowly and often with few, if any, symptoms.

When are U going to Charlotte Street again?

    www.mosemporium.co.uk

On google it gives Charlotte Street as the address, but on the website it's Kensington Church Street.
