    Re: Splash Port the aftermath

    Hmm where do I start???

    The Good
Roomates were great..thank you Sarah H and Kathleen..watching you tag-teaming with the makeup and mirror whilst getting getting ready Sunday night was truly awesome..!

Rocky's set on a Fri night got things off to a flyer..
SFunk..words can't describe my joy at listening to all that great music..,made wristband checking so much fun!
Dancing with my new friends Gaynor (hope your voice comes back) Diane (saucy woman!), Jen from Leicester, Maxine & Suzanne you're both wonderful. Al my other lovely dances with my friends, thank you

    The Bad
Watching a ceroc'er throw a fosters beer mat at a female member of staff in the pub just before Mike's Swing Hour...totally unacceptible

    The Fun
Sitting eating chips with Gaynor at 3am outside the Chillax tented room ..
Watching the girls have 'fun' and playing in Boudoir for the last 2 hours Monday morning.
    Finally

    The Good
Meeting so many new people and making lots of new friends
Absolutely love the atmosphere at Southport, the people up there are so nice and friendly. I've yet to meet a Scottish person who hasn't been charming and a great dancer.
Donna (Battlecat) making me somewhat a figure of speculation and legend amongst the Blues girls. Heehee.
Southport tickets only cost £30, awesome. More of those please.
The new wristbands, first weekender I've been to where it hasn't broken off somehow...
Had a great time all round.

The Bad - (this is misleadingly long, I had a great time 99.9% of the time)
The worst thing, my SWAS flatmate I just have to tell you about him...

'Ave bin dancin' fer 12 years now, am not bein' bigheaded or anythin' but ah'd say that half t' women at my venue only come 'cos ah say ah'll be there. Often 'ave to correct the teachers in classes when they get things wrong y'know? - Ah! Ya see? They got the footwork wrong on even on the DVD here. Ah've done 17 classes this weekend (It was true, he did 17 classes), of course ahfter all the time ah've bin dancin' ya tend t' pick up things faster than evr'yone else... and. so. on. all. weekend.

I later watched him dance in the Blues room. I'm not amazing myself but I can spot a bad dancer, he didn't have a bloody clue how bad he was, jerky, bouncy, women weren't happy...
I saw him comment to the teacher during one of the classes that women weren't travelling back far enough on a move - didn't seem to occur to him that perhaps he was to blame, no one else had a problem.
Finally, he also had a habit of wandering around the chalet butt naked. I'm 21 years old, he was hitting 60. I grit my teeth for the entirety of the weekend and was polite but seriously, I really was reaching a limit.

    ---

The only other thing was the journey to and from Southport. I have no transport so I walked 3 miles to my nearest train station in early morning freezingness, from my local station I went to Vauxhall, from there, take the tube to London Euston, London Euston to Liverpool Lime Street, take the Metro to Liverpool Central, train to Ainsdale, walk 15 mins from Ainsdale station to Pontins. Not fun!

    --

I hasten to add that neither of the above points are Ceroc's fault. The only criticism I have is of the Ceroc official photographers. Why not just call them the 'Beautiful Elite' photographers? 50 for them, 1 (if you're lucky) for everybody else. It's dumb.

    The Pointless
The fairground, the first thing I thought when I saw it was 'Why?'. Who's here to ride fairground rides, especially in sub-zero temperatures? I was dying just walking back to my chalet.
You know, it's weird, but I think I know the bloke you're referring to...and it's a very accurate description of what he's like!

Do they do tandas at Ceroc events, rather than using Ceroc conventions ?
As far as I'm aware there were no official Tandas (I didn't go to any classes, so I'm not sure if any traditions or etiquette was mentioned? ) but it did seem as though most couples tended to stay together for 3 or more tracks.

Personally, I'm ambivalent but it's definitely a difference from the Southports of old. The venue is the critical element for me here and the Boudoir in particular. I'd much rather travel the extra miles to get here than to go to Camber.
I hope the few 'stars' that were there for there first CerocPort comment it would be interesting

    Re: Splash Port the aftermath

My first Southport ... and I loved it

Would have loved it more if my expected chalet mate was there but this was not to be. Managed to sell the ticket to a chap from Crewe so got my cashback.

    The good for me
Anil and Barry taking me in for several hours and supplying cups of tea on Friday evening whilst I was waiting for my chalet mate to arrive

I spent most of my time in the Blues room except for the time when there was WCS hours in the Cycone room. Loved the extra flooring - waaaaay better than the temporary flooring I experienced at Skeggy.

Seeing people from Glasgow, Ducasi especially, that I haven't seen in a very long time and getting lots of dances from them

The not so good for me
Losing my coat on Friday night between the carpark and my chalet. Despite regularly asking at the desk, the gate and checking the lost property wall in the main room it did not turn up until 30 minutes before we left Monday morning. It was found stuffed in a corner of the blues room on Monday morning by the Pontins staff. Anyway, I got it back which is the main thing even if I did have to freeze over the weekend.

Being a Norma No Mates and having to go out by myself all weekend. Thankfully DTS and Batgirl saw me looking a little lost and gave me hugs and laughs to cheer me up

Finding the igloo very intimidating. I would look in there but not being able to see who was in there meant I wasn't brave enough to go in. My fault really for being shy but I shall try to get over it next time.

This all sounds rather negative but it really wasn't. I've only experienced one weekender before this, Skegness which I didn't really enjoy, so was rather anxious about this one. But I seen the light and am champing at the bit to book for May

Best muddy the water then....Brilliant weekend as usuall.

Most of you that know me are aware that Batgirl, ie the missus, has cancer, so we do not dance a lot these days. Our dance fitness has left the building, combine this with Rachel, ie the Bat, getting fatigued very quickly we were in bed before 10 pm on friday and saturday, however.....

I have never been one to dance until silly o clock in the am and enjoy my daytime dancing a a lot more, there was some brilliant music being played from the likes of Vince, Rocky, Marc Foster and Loco Man to name but a few. Stayed in the Chill out room most of the weekend with the odd walk thro the main room and the Latin 1/4.

Many thanks to everyone who sat and chatted with me and the Bat all weekend, special thanks to Mel and Tonic for getting the Bat slashed on wine on Sunday, did her the world of good. Thanks to the people who came up to the Bat and said, we know you are not well so if you are up for a dance just ask, and I am yours, it was well appreciated.

This weekend was one of socializing for us, with the odd dance thrown in now and again.

Twas me who commented upon Dave Hancock's obvious pleasure for dancing, I did not know him but thought he was encapsulating all that is good about dancing, he was oozing pleasure and happiness on the floor. The Scottish dancers just seem to be in a different league to us mere mortals of dancing, must be something in the air methinks.

All in all a stunning weekend yet again, still this is what I have come to expect from Ceroc, and I have yet to have a bad weekend with Ceroc. Me and the Bat will see you all at Camber.

Personal view ... lovely room that seemed to be even more deserted than it was in its old incarnation as a Latin room under JA. I'm sure the Tango crowd enjoyed it but using a room for 30 dancers out of 1500 seems a little overkill. Having siad that I didn't check how it do through the night. I'm sure that is it worked overall the concept will eb retained ... if not Ceroc will try something else.

    ITS A CHILL OUT ROOM
    Well yes and no......

One of the really good points about the weekend, is what goes on in the Boudoir and the fact that it changes genre.

We have the Swingers hour, which isn't exactly chill and the S'funk, which isn't chill either but it IS advertised at such and as Fletch points out, its NOT solely a BLUES ROOM.

Aww I didn't see you at all over the weekend, apart from out of my chalet window, when you were enroute to the venue.

You're probably right Fletch. Once I'm up dancing it's fine, but I find I really need to know someone in there to start off with, as everyone in there's socialising so you never know who to ask.

Will have to try harder at Camber!

I had such a fantastic time at Southport, each one just keeps getting better and better.

    The Good

    There was just so much that I'd never get any work done if I wrote it all down, but in short;

The people that were there really made it for me. I've met so many lovely people at the weekenders, that its great to now see them regularly and catch up. Fletch you are as wonderful as ever and Jo is fast becoming one of the best dancers on the scene. He really is amazing for 11 years old.

My very very fast dance with Fred & Tom Baker. Tom doesn't even get breathless!

The swingers hour of course and I'm very pleased to see that its getting more popular.

The music in the main room was fab Sunday night.

Making it to pilates for the 1st time and to the swimming pool

    Aston's 1st 2 proper dances...aah, felt so proud!

Partying with Val Saturday night - always fun

I had some great dances over the weekend. Thanks to everyone I danced with.

    The Bad

    No swingers hour on Saturday

The fact that Mike works continuously so I don't get to see him

    The Ugly

Having to climb out of Vals chalet window at 5.30 am Sun morn to escape.

    Splash - The Aftermath

    Journey
The traffic on the Friday on the way down coupled with the M6 road works turned the 4.5hr journey from Edinburgh to Southport into a long 5hr journey but I’m sure my travel companions appreciated the extra 30 mins sleep. Also starting to think my Tom-Tom was having a laugh with me taking me on the worse road in Britain for the second year in a row.

    Accommodation

Took a gamble on the £30 share with a stranger offer and the gamble paid off. Chalet mate turned out to be a cheerful bloke on his first weekender, he used his own milk and he didn’t pee in my wardrobe so all good really.

The budget accommodation was OK, was a bit drafty in the living room but we had a bedroom each which was cool for two strangers sharing. Bathroom was a bit chilly and made showering a character building experience and with not enough shelves in the bathroom made the logistics of bring my stuff from my room to the bathroom a bit troublesome at times.
The biggest pain with the accommodation really was being without a Microwave. Meaning all meals had to be cooked in the oven which took an age and was definitely a health and safety issue as no oven mitts were proved. Luckily no burnt fingers this time.

    Venues

(Timings of available dancing, Size, Floor, Heat - fans - air-con etc, Bars - efficiency and prices, Seating, Atmosphere)
Floors are good in general, real bonus having that big block of extra dance space in the main room. Had many a good dance on there. The cyclone room floor does need a little TLC near the front but the extra flooring around the edge is fab to dance on.

    Heat – fans – air-con
: Cyclone room always about perfect, main room regularly on the hot side and those huge fans did nothing for hairstyle LOL Boudoir a bit chilly at times and the chill out zone more of a freeze out zone/igloo.

    Seating
: Cyclone room again about perfect, main room pretty good as well, Boudoir pretty poor.
To me it is the seating in the Blues room which make it an uncomfortable place to be. It’s hard to find a place to settle, get into the feel of the room and then figure out where the people in the room are that you want to dance with. Plus at peak hours the Blues rooms was just too small for the number of people who wanted to be in there.

Giving it a little thought I would think for peak hours 23:00-03:00 that a better set up would be to have funky/chill/WCS tracks being playing in the Boudoir, slow blues and true chill out tracks being played in the Cyclone room and pushing Tango and Latin out to Hurricane shelter. Well they are too good to be dancing near the common people anyway

    Music - Dj's

DJing was generally of a high standard. Saying that someone did murder Shakira new she-wolf track in the main room by setting the bpm to high and making it sounds like a helium version (every track in the main room doesn’t need to be 160bpm). Also wasn’t enough slow blues being played between 01:00-04:00 on any of the nights in the Boudoir and if we don’t have slow tracks being played then it makes it harder for those starting blues to get into the way of it.

    Dancers
Great mix of people and I loved the idea of the chill out igloo in the foyer, might have worked better if that area had more seating with non-dance music playing and no dance floor, every time I popped by it was either being used by 1 or 2 couples dancing alone making it more of a make out area or there would be a group in there with 1 or 2 people putting on a stand-up act. All interesting but missing the mark of a chill out zone a little.

    Workshops
Attended 7 workshops or so and they were fab, some of them packed a little too much into to short a time frame but they were all very well organized and the content of the workshops was first class.

    Cabarets
    Great showcases

    Funnies…
Had to giggle at the people who ran and got the free tickets for the carnival ride’s after the cabaret then ran outside to use them with ony jumpers on, shivering away waiting for the ride to start I just thought rather you than me as I trotted off to have a nice hot midnight dinner.

    Overall
Weekender was a good one with the people there being so much fun. Still a little room for further improvements but I’m sure Ceroc will get there in the end.

    Till next time...

    Re: Splash Port the aftermath

What a fabulous/wonderful/lovely weekend, I had a small blip Sunday night but soon got over that...

Well I was overly excited to start with , my friend Nicky (first timer) was wondering if my expectations may lead to disappointment but it really didn't.

The white fluffy room absolutely made my weekend, it was a tad nippy when the main doors had been open, but dancing quickly sorted that out. Friday night it was pretty much an empty space (with only one or two couples at a time compared to the overly busy other rooms) but I set myself up there for the night only leaving to drag another man in, I loved the fact I could go to the Boudoir pick up a man and lead him back to my lair (generally unquestioned), Mark F had left his ipod with a freestyle play list and I couldn't fault a song on it - though the random announcements about taxi's and it being the last song were amusing. I really was walking on air that night absolutely dreamy and fluffy feeling dances. I know people weren’t sure about what the room was for but I was glad to see it get busier over the weekend, you couldn’t fault the chairs and atmosphere in there, feeding grapes/Turkish delight to Princess Fi, Supervixen and others, then having 9 people on a chair and it not bursting were the social highlights of that room.
Apparently Mike E wasn’t sure about that room and was considering taking it down on Sunday night so I’m very glad he didn’t, though I think I may have scared him as I raved about how much I loved it and did drag him in there for 2 dances

I can’t say the Boudoir really did it for me, I found it either too crowded or the music just didn’t grab me, saying that was it just me who noticed rather than a slow trickle of people leaving there was almost a mass exodus come 2.30. I must admit I felt there was an absence of bluesyness, seemed all a bit fast for the time in the morning when I would expect to be in a deep blues cuddle but I was somewhat hyper on Saturday night so it didn’t bother me too much (and I know I’m getting a blues fix this weekend). On Saturday I even found myself going into the main room to the far side as despite the heat it was the only place I could find where I could swirl my dress.

DJ’s of the weekend would be Tiggerbabes early morning sets, Blondies sack the DJ spot and Marks ipod play list in the Fluffy room.

    The Highlights:
Feeding cheesecake to Mark, Raph and Lee on Monday morning.
The final dance: Raph + 10 follows (the video is on my facebook)
The spreading of crème brulee love
The fluffy room and all my dances in there, beautiful and well fluffy...
Having my best and possibly worst dance of the weekend to 'all that jazz' with Graham (I was hyper and bouncy just glad there wasn't a camera about)

Dozing off with Mr D in an inflatable chair and Stokebloke covering us up. (maybe they saw the post about wanting beds in the blues room)
My finds of the weekend Les/Len? and Lee
Seeing my friends loving the weekender (4 first timers) they are all chomping at the bit for February.
Forgetting how much money we’d get from the cashback scheme – what a lovely surprise.
I also like the fact that Southport is the one venue I feel Ceroc are putting an effort into.. they seem to actually be listening (imo) to what we want and are making changes.
There was just too many highlights, southport as a venue is fantastic add my favourite dancers from all over the country coming to my doorstep, lots of great food, company and laughs x

    The less good bits:
Hearing of those with rubbish SWAS chalet mates
My finds of the weekend saying they don’t have a regular venue where they dance
The fun fair – Why? Is it to try and be like Butlins? The only thing I liked about it was the potential to have a fame style dance on top of the ride, but I don’t think this happened.
Rooms being too crowded and seeing some shocking floor craft.
Missing swing hour!!! I fell back to sleep despite setting an alarm
Missing a few of the ‘usual suspects’ and missing a few dancers who were there – Filthy Monkey can I please be added to your dance card for next time.
Feeling like a few dancers were deliberately avoiding me (hence my Sunday blip)
And finally as Rob D has said someone attempting to tag us despite we were in a tight blues cuddle (I know I’m normally up for tag but I felt we were obviously off limits) saying that it just made me hold on tighter and I didn’t even open my eyes to see who it was

Having to climb out of Vals chalet window at 5.30 am Sun morn to escape.
    Quality!

I just about made it out alive myself, on Monday morning!

I had to walk back to my chalet, bare foot in the rain

I did the same thing.... Men, they're just so easy, you just take them by the hand, not saying a word and they come, like lambs to the slaughter!

If it was a woman, we'd be saying..."Where are you taking me?"
