    BritRock Brighton Sat 31 Oct

    Is anyone out there plannin to go this event? I've never been to this comp, but hear it is good fun.

    I hope to go to this year, but don't have a dance partner available. So if anyone is interested in doing the Intermdiates, (or you know someone who may be), PM me!

    Perhaps someone could put up a poll where you can see names - then the forumites would know who to look for.

    As usual I'm Adjudicator/Scrutineer. The Judges are as follows;

    Carol Haines - Head Judge

    Simon Rich

    Nicole Beckey

    Viktor Andeke

    Phil Webb

    Thats a pretty strong line up. If you had Dave and/or Lily Barker in there it would be nigh on perfect.

    I think Sarah has had them as judges in the past. There's probably a couple of dozen judges who would be perfect and you can't have the same ones every year. Partly because of their other commitments and partly because variety is the spice of life.

    Sarah tells me that ticket sales are going well for this event so it should be a great couple of days. If you needed a reason to attend the Friday night is a Haloween Dance with spooky castle, a ballroom lesson for Gordon and Sally plus a very quick, 2 minute lesson from me to start off the "Timewarp". It's all the excuse we need to wear stockings, suspenders and a basque - who shouted "slut"?

    My poll answer "Yes - I'm going and competing" is subject to me actually finding a partner of course!

    And if anyone's coming down for the weekend, Decadance freestyle (till 2am) is just a couple of minutes walk away at Ralli Hall in Hove so you could do 2 in one night!

    WCS @ Britrock

    There's been a flurry of interest in staging a WCS Exhibition at Britrock.

    James Geary has been fabulous in getting things moving, has shown real vision and creativity and has come up with judges and a WCS DJ - well done James

    After much discussion. Some of it very distracting from the main business of a National Modern Jive competition we've finally decided to run a DWAS WCS in the finals. This will be on single round danced after the MJ DWAS finals. Positions will be calculated and medals awarded based on the performance in this single round. Pairing will be done at the end of the evening break, just before the commencement of the finals. The timetable still needs to be finalised, but I'm guessing the DWAS WCS competitors will have about 15 mins or so after pairing to get to know each other before competing.

    There is a limit of 10 men and 10 women in this category and there is a lot of interest. Get your bookings in fast if you want to compete.

    Here is what was sent out within the last hour;

    Firstly, we are delighted to announce/confirm a Dance With A Stranger West Coast Swing, fun finals Category.
    We are looking for approx 10 males and 10 x females to make this work. On the day there will be a 10 minute partnering just before the end of the dinner break at 7.50pm in the main hall. The WCS final will take place just after the MJ DWAS final.

    So far the judges and DJ are likely to be, any additions will be sent out shortly:

    David Barker

    Simon Rich

    Nicole Becky

    Phil Webb

    Mike Rosa

    WCS DJ Sarah Piddington

    Please support this category if you can so future decisions for inclusion at BritRock can be made. Tell your friends and book on ASAP with a first come first served basis. To reserve your place please go to our on-line ticket sales.
    £5 entry fee - trophies for 1st, 2nd & 3rd.
    N.B. Note to Moderators. This is not me promoting my own event. I am not the organiser or a paid employee of Britrock Ltd. I am an unpaid volunteer who works from 9am - 2am for 2 days solid in the hope of filling my luxury hotel room** with wall to wall sexy and nubile groupies*

    * Not CJ, not again

    ** I don't have a hotel room either

    And down the road there is the event that is the topic of this thread. It's called Britrock and there will be the best dancers in the UK with a smattering of foreign visitors. There will be acres of glitter, hanky sized outfits held on with glue and hope, fit dancers giving their all for our entertainment and the chance to dance with them in the freestyle.

    There's at least one Decadance every month and I hear it's a great night. However, there's only one Britrock a year. My advice is to visit Decadance next month and enjoy the full Britrock experience.

    Can we keep this thread on-topic, please

    All of them?

    I'll be going to Daventry that day but good luck with the WCS entries. I know Cat has moved her monthly WCS freestyle to that evening to avoid clashing with Rebel Yell so hopefully that will not impact the popularity of that category.

    It's a bit like Miss World. Does the competition choose the most beautiful woman in the world. No it doesn't. But you still get the title which implies that is the case.

    You can only be proved to be the best if you compete in a national competition where everyone in the nation could have entered. If a good dancer chooses not to enter that is their choice. But the winner is still the national champion - that makes them the best on the day and they have a trophy to prove it

    I haven't seen Rocky dance for many years. He used to be good, but the only way he could prove he was the best would be to win a competition - but he has chosen to have a social night out instead. That is his choice and, I'm guessing, he probably has nothing to prove and no desire to prove it.

    The WCS category is an exhibition category - it is not trying to be a national contest and is not there to pick the national champion. There's many Modern Jivers who also do WCS who are attending Britrock and could enter this category. There's also many modern jivers who might take up WCS if they see it exhibited at Britrock. Therefore the benefit is three-fold: the Britrock attendees get another category to enter, the spectators have something different to watch and the WCS community get to showcase their dance to a wide audience of keen Modern Jivers from around the UK.

    Thanks for the clarification.

    I am not sure one of your judges may approve though....
