What will I wear?
If I was competing I'd be looking in my dressing up boxes, trawling the internet for ideas and looking at old videos and youtube for inspiration.
However, I need to be taken seriously as I'm one of the officials. Does this mean I can't wear my flourescent pink wig?
So, what will you be wearing?
Have heard that there are only a few spaces left for the WCS cat so book as soon as if you want to enter
Is there any news on if there is a WCS room yet Andy?
Yes. It is true that the West Coast Swing category is filling up. I posted this earlier today but the post was removed because it was seen as advertising (not complaining, honest ).
This category was introduced at the suggestion of James Geary. It was James who suggested Mike Rosa as a judge. As far as I know, there is no hidden agenda and the category was introduced because James took it upon himself to make it happen.
Sarah is running a Modern Jive competition and had discussed the introduction of West Coast Swing with Catriona Wiles in the past. After much discussion it was decided that it would be too hard/expensive to make Britrock a joint WCS/MJ event. The main sticking point was the provision of a separate hall for the WCS freestyle. There is another hall at Hove Town Hall, however the cost of this hall is not far off that of the main hall and the number of WCS dancers would probably be too low to justify the expense.
Sarah had already decided not to run a WCS competition as part of Britrock. As I said earlier, the WCS DWAS is very much an exhibition event and a bit of fun. Britrock is not trying to be a National WCS competition. One of the Modern Jive competitors, James Geary, asked the organiser of the competition if she would provide a single category for WCS dancers and that is what she's done. It's a simple Dance With a Stranger competition with one opportunity to compete in the finals. I think it's a great way for WCS dancers to try competing and a great way for WCS dancers to showcase the dance to a huge audience of Modern Jivers. The WCS category is half the price of anything else at Britrock and will, almost certainly, make a loss once the trophies have been provided and the judges have been fed and watered - don't forget, David Barker will need to be fed and brought drinks - we know he doesn't move his feet when he dances, but he didn't get that fabulous figure without putting in many hours at the bar and dinner table!
As I said earlier, this is an exhibition category at a Modern Jive event. There will not be any special room provided for any other dance. But the floor in the main hall is massive and, I'm sure, WCS dancers will be able to find a slot somewhere near the stage. Besides, I'd be very surprised if anybody in the WCS category was not a Modern Jive dancer too.
