Re: Midland Swing Open 2009 - Results

Just a little review of the weekend which was fabulous.

    Firstly the hotel.
This far exceeded my expectations. The quality of the room was excellent with a spotlessly clean and modern bathroom. The toiletries were Crabtree and Evelyn La Source.
Guests staying two nights had a three course evening meal included (normally £21). This was exceptionally good for restaurant food and a lot of people opted to pay to eat there the second evening too although maybe only opting for two courses. The choice at Breakfast was fab and it was nice to be able to enjoy a leisurely breakfast as classes did not start too early.
There was a spacious and airy foyer with comfy chairs and sofas and a lovely bar area too.
Drinks were Expensive so my advice would be to take your own soft drinks and water too as there was no water available as far as I am aware.

    Classes
I particularly enjoyed Sam Buckwalter's classes which came across in a clear and concise way. Also very good were Paul and Cat's classes and Jason and Erica's too.
These were the only ones I took part in.

    Freestyles
The first evening at the nightclub was excellent.
On walking in I did wonder if it was going to work - mainly due to the layout, but, the atmosphere was excellent and it was a lovely evening with excellent music. I hope this is repeated next year.

The Saturday freestyle at the hotel saw lots of additional people turn up which was great. Gerry - I have never seen you miserable before but I hope the wrist is improving. The dancing eventually ended at 4.30. Again fabulous music.

    Sunday
Hmmmmm. This was a bit of a disappointment. I ended up leaving at 10 PM and it seemed like lots of people had left so it was very quiet. Not sure if it picked up a little later or not but I know some people had driven a fair way to attend. I'm not sure what can be done to remedy this.

    Competitions and Cabaret
Despite not doing very well myself I really enjoyed taking part and watching the comps.
The standard seemed particularly high. The intermediate JnJ were spotlight and the standard was very high. Well done AussieJ on winning the Newcomer JnJ.

All in all I had a great weekend which I would not hesitate to repeat. I remember it as an extremely friendly event with a great community spirit. There were a few very minor teething problems which could be very easily rectified and Paul and Lee are open to feedback. They were considerate hosts and did a fantatsic job. Thsis event I'm sure will get better and better.

    .
Pretty upset not to be able to dance as much as I usually would due to my bad wrist. I don't think that I have said no to so many girls in all my dancing life. I hope every one understood

The water was free from the bar, although a glass of wine was £6.55!!!
