How do you see the weekender market developing in 2010 and beyond

Ok I appreciate there is a lot of apathy re weekenders now. It’s a tried and tested formula and there is only a limited amount of interest when you discuss floors/heat etc for the 50th time

‘Weekenders’ seems fairly ‘same old’ at present

Classes, Cabaret and lots of dancing.

If we are talking about weekenders with above 500+ attending

I would have a few ideas what I would like to see

Maybe some theme weekenders e.g. 1980s is now very popular

A pure blues weekender (with all the associated teaching)

A weekender that has vast areas of open decking which juts into the sea and guarantees 80f and wall to wall sunshine.

A weekender where women complain it was so cold in the rooms they had to keep their coats on (ie Air conditioning just right)

A weekender when women complain it’s so hot they had to take their clothes off (just right)

A weekender that provides tea coffee and cakes at allotted hours and more cake in the hours in between

A weekender with Cameron Diaz is the main star in the cabaret

    Any other ideas?

    I'd definately booked that one

I'm still enjoying weekenders, especially like Breeze as it has a blues theme.

I see from the latest email from Ceroc that there are some dates for their 2010 weekenders. (Although given past experience with changing dates, I guess there's a chance they'll change):

Potters Norfolk (SWISH) 19th Feb 2010 - SOLD OUT
Pontins Camber (STORM) 5th Mar – Bookings open
    Pontins Southport (SPLASH) 21st May
    Pontins Camber (VLV) 11th Jun
    Pontins Brean (BREEZE) 1st Oct
    Pontins Southport (SPLASH) 15th Oct
    Pontins Camber (BLISS) 12th Nov
    Love dance, will travel

You have to give Ceroc some respect. the way they have come into the weekender market, taken a core segment of it and published dates a year in advance so you can plan

Interesting that Feb Southport has been dropped

Here's a non-educated guess - organisers will avoid competing with Ceroc events and so only offer quite specialised ones for niche and more specialised area like blues, jangoesque (MJ/tango), beginner ballroom, WCS weekenders, run by organisers who specialise in that niche/danceform. It would also make sense that at least some events move to non-chalet venues such as hotels or halls, with accommodation in the surrounding area ... or we all go camping around a lovely village hall or two and have campfires and marshmallows alongside the dancing. The latter is just about the only way I could imagine something of the former 'Southport atmosphere' ... although I hope I'm wrong (as in hope there would be more options).

Ceroc do Posh as well 'SWISH' next Feb is very posh. It sold out months ago.

I wasn't allowed to leave my car the hotel grounds

As far as I known only Butlins and Pontins are of a size to cater for 1000+

There was thread on this site about a year + ago about ceroc world domination, I fear the time lines mentioned can now be reduced

ps anyone know where I can buy a ceroc pen to go with my ceroc mugs ??

Same with Camber in November....there's a distinct whiff of world domination at the moment.

Hmmmm, as a collection of people, I would have gone with a "Pride of Cerocers", but "Ceroc Mugs" does suit us much better.

This sounds good but does anyone know yet is it possible to do the freestyles only at this event rather than the whole weekend? thank you

Makes commercial sense as all ceroc Southport events will sell out weeks if not months in advance

POntins are rebuilding all sites over 2010. They started this year. My guess is that there is less accom available at Camber this time round due to this.

When they are re-built Camber is going to have 6,000 capacity and prestatyn 7,500 capacity.

Im guessing with this in mind, there will be more sharing with muggles.

Sharing with muggles is in my mind, a killer, trashes the atmosphere

You can book the whole weekend for £80 and stay offsite. I don't think freestyle only tickets are available, but there will probably be more info on here http://www.metropolis-dance.co.uk/ in a couple of weeks.

I don't think they are giving out free mugs at the Ceroc weekends any more, at least I didn't get one at the last Cerocport.

Sadly 10 years too late it should have been upgraded Camber years ago

    Yup,

I think in recent years though holidays "at home" have become more and more popular.

Look at Butlins. In Bognor they have just finished building two new hotels on site. Unfortunatly they have not upgraded the facilities so everything is cramped.
