So you think you can dance?

The BBC have just bought this format........which has been running the USA for several years.

I enjoyed it when I saw it a few times over there - and sometimes here. The kids (16-25ish) they have on can really dance - some of them are exceptional - and they have to try out different styles from week to week.

I just hope they get some decent judges.

This could take over from Strictly in popularity....especially with < 35 year olds (and me).

that depends how they do it - remember Strictly Dance Fevers first season was excellent but the 2nd season was not even half as good due to the ripping off of the x-factor format : which didn't work at all.

I watched the USA programmes on Sky and loved them..

..as you say, some of the dancing is exceptional You can't really compare it to Strictly though, as most of contestants are studying dance or have come from a dance background.

The part I found most interesting, was seeing how the dancers coped with the different styles thrown at them. Ballet dancers doing Hip hop and street dancers doing Jazz for example!

    I can't wait!

No, you were right the first time - it's pretty close to SDF, from what I've seen.

    Two big differences:

Although the main dances are as couples, the entrants are individuals who are randomly paired each week. The dancers who come bottom then perform solo dances to try to stay in for the next week.

The dancers don't design their own choreography - there are professionals attached to the show who do that.

As in SDF, in theory anyone can enter, in practice, pretty much everyone in the finals has had serious amounts of dance training.

I'm honestly fairly surprised the BBC have bought the rights to this when it's so similar to what they did with SDF.

It has been a big hit in Aussie.

A lot of fun to watch.
