    Of course.

Christmas boxes of chocolates and biccies are on the shelves in the supermarkets with big signs telling you to 'Stock up now for Christmas'.... Bah humbug!!!

Not for me! (With the exception of one muppet who sent me a "x days to go" email). Admittedly I've not been in the shops recently...

Does anyone else remember the days when Halloween served the really useful purpose of stopping the shops jumping on the Christmas bandwagon too early?

This is just conjuring up so many images - where , exactly, did you put the spouts?

Re: Has Christmas arrived yet where you are ?

I took my parents out for dinner yesterday and as we walked into the restaurant, the lobby was completely decked out like Christmas, promoting the Xmas menu and the need to book in advance

It was such a lovely warm sunny day yesterday and I think a display like that makes people feel they have to constantly be planning ahead, instead of just enjoying each day, as it comes!

    Lory..

I think it is a shame. So far only 2 venues that I pass on my way to work have signs up saying book for Christmas, which isn't too bad. Come to think of it, part of the reason that I have missed any other advertising may be that I only seem to clothes shop lately, and my work doesn't seem to have got itself in a flap about Christmas dinner yet - (we usually get an email mid August )

Ah well I shall stick my head in the sand for a little longer and enjoy the peace.

Yes, although those days are sadly long gone - the seasonal aisle generally switches to Christmas in September, is changed to Halloween for the latter part of October, and then the Christmas stuff is wheeled back out. A few years back when I was having one of my "grumpy old men" reactions to the Christmas puddings being displayed in early October I picked one up and realised that the use-by date was mid-November. Now, to some extent I can understand the argument that some people like to stock up early because it's quieter and they're not risking the shop selling out, but if you're going to be using it in mid-November anyway, how paranoid would you need to be to worry that stocks might have been exhausted by then?

One of the benefits of living in France, however, is that the Christmas season still doesn't really start until after Halloween. In September everyone's still too preoccupied with La Rentrée (Back to School)

I first saw adverts for Christmas events at Jongleurs several weeks ago, and that was well before August Bank Holiday!!!!!

Thought this was an interesting story (also dates from before the August Bank Holiday)

I'd just read this yesterday (when it WAS hot and sunny in Scotland) and an e-mail arrived entitled Festive Menu...the really annoying thing was the cover to it read "I know it's a few months away, but...".

If they know it's THAT early - why bother sending it?

I have to admit I did read it and was intriged by the idea of

HOME-MADE SEASONAL SOUP OF THE DAY

    With an oven-warmed boule

I have visions of a VERY heavy plate of soup!

you HAD too? enforced Christmas ? Thats harsh

I mostly avoid shopping so have not noticed decorations in shops, they don't appear to be in the streets though.

Am waiting to see if this years chosen night out restaurant has any "infamous" dishes for me to avoid like last years restaurant.

Yes it will - it works fine.

That's a good story. Its amusing that the demand is that shops dont sell Christmas cards until the 1st of November - Xmas vigilanties of yesteryear would have demanded a 1st of December minimum at least. Super gluing locks on a charity shop though? nasty - locksmiths charging money to fix it? nastier.

Personally, reasonably subtle Christmas advertising doesnt bother me at this time of year as it is mainly catalogues, restaurants and the like that try to get in early. Toy advertising bothers me but that gets pushed all year round anyway. When your child can say "I want that" to every single advert during an advert break, no one can tell me that the adverts are not entirely aimed at children . Safer to stick with Cbeebies

I'm trying hard to avoid it, but inevitably before long I am going to run into some tinsel by accident or worse still some "seasonal music" - the only problem is when I do I'm going to have to kill someone (rant mode off)
