What's the rudest thing you've seen on the dance floor?

Last night I was utterly shocked / appalled as I watched a couple dancing. To start with the guy leading looked completely disinterested (you could see the follow was a bit miffed at this to start with) but then he looked at his watch as she came round to face him (in a ohh god what time is it, is the song over soon? kind of way). I was utterly flabbergasted and amazed the follow did not just walk off the dance floor. I know sometimes you have dances which just don't work for you but you smile and make the best of it, I felt awful for the lass he was dancing with. In case you hadn't guessed this kind of action really riles me, grr

    I was.

Last night was pretty UPC when i went to a blues dance for the first time.

It's not like the MJ blues's rooms where they have Baby Jesus.

I'm amazed actually, because I used to do a sort of blues without the baby jesus and was expecting that at MJ Blues.

Then to discover a whole load of dancers doing it without Baby Jesus after all.

The rudest thing I've seen on a dancefloor? Probs DTS when he came and muscled me out of my spot, then grabbed me by the balls to say hello

I am far from new to the forum, and I'm as baffled as you are. At the moment, I have this strange mental vision of a couple blues dancing while holding between them a small child sporting a halo.

Welcome to the weird and wonderful world of the forum.

Not far off. The idea is that the dancers are supposed to 'leave space for baby Jesus' between them. (i.e. not grind).

To me, the idea of stopping a couple grinding by putting an imaginary baby between them sounds somewhat warped. Not to mention uncomfortable. What's wrong with a cushion?

I believe the concept crept in amongst certain churches/schools in America that considered dancing sinful (and I think this was way before 'grinding' - it would have applied to dances like waltz and foxtrot, too). Thus the biblical reference.

Well - I suppose would make quite a good test of frame and connection. Can you dance round the room without dropping the baby, or squashing it flat.

Probably not very good for the baby though....

I dunno, Katie quite enjoys it. Leading by holding her hand rather than mummy (who is carrying) is quite challenging though.

I always think it is well rude when a lady refuses a dance with that dead pan expression and tone of voice that says "What, me dance with you?!"

And then on the very next track you'll see her up with one of her "favorites"

    Flaming Dance Snobs.

Re: What's the rudest thing you've seen on the dance floor?

Rudest thing I've seen was at Breeze last year in the blues room. A guy asked a youngish girl to dance, she looked really chuffed as he was quite a good dancer (in his own way) although she wasn't a bad dancer. Then halfway through the dance he just walked off - I didn't notice any conversation or explanation - leaving her amongst everyone else. The poor girl looked mortified, but what made it worse was he stood to the side for a bit, then went and asked someone else.

I'd have been fuming if that had happened to me. Even if you don't enjoy dancing with someone, you should try and stop them from realising that, especially if you've asked them! But to then immediately go and ask someone else to dance...disgusting.

I walked off part-way through a track on Saturday night - it wasn't a track I'd heard before and I genuinely thought the track had finished and another one had started, so I said Thank You and walked away. It was quite a few seconds later (ie too late to get my partner back again) when the tune came back and I realised it was still the same track.

To a casual observer it might look as if I'd been quite rude, even though that wasn't my intention ...
    Love dance, will travel
