    Upcoming movies

Taking a leaf out of straycat's 'I have just seen...' thread - and seeing how I'm a bit of a cinephile these days - I thought I'd make this thread to discuss and post anything about upcoming movies.

To kick things off, here's the new trailer for Where The Wild Things Are, the Spike Jonze-directed adaptation of Maurice Sendak's children's book.

    Trailer #2 (Yahoo)

No comments on Where The Wild Things Are? Personally, I haven't actually read the book, as I didn't come across it when I used to read heaps of books as a kid, going to the school library and all that.

I get the impression that there's quite a few people out there who did read this when they were younger - so I'm curious whether they'd be keen to see this movie adaptation...

Anyway, here's a new trailer for the upcoming Terry Gilliam movie The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus - it features the last film performance of the late Heath Ledger.

Doesn't really appeal to me that one to be honest.. can't see a ten sentence kids picture book being filmed with actors in furry suits being that gripping

Some things are best left alone in the imagination of the children we once were.

Good pick, that's one I'm hanging out for as well. Technically it isn't a Tim Burton-directed movie, its Shane Acker's

I've been eagerly anticipating a soon-to-be-released science fiction movie directed by South African Neill Blomkamp, called District 9 :-

Its had a well-promoted viral marketing campaign doing the rounds as well. I've been hearing some rave reviews about it from those who've seen advanced screenings of it back in Australia - can't wait to see this!

    Re: Upcoming movies

Undecided about this one. James Cameron's latest scifi epic - Avatar - quantum leap in hi-tech film making, pushing all boundaries, most amazing thing ever, utterly mind-blowing yadda di yadda di yadda.

Anyway - the trailer went up today. As usual, the Apple web team seem to have messed up and put the wrong links up, but they can currently be accessed on:

    Standard: http://www.apple.com/movies/fox/avat...-tsr_h.640.mov
    HD: http://www.apple.com/movies/fox/avat...a-tsr_720p.mov

Perhaps I'm becoming a little jaded, but to me, this just looks not so much like a film, as like a really impressive, but still not particularly realistic computer game (OK - so the environments look incredible, but the creatures?) Hmmm...
