    Buried....

watched 10 mins and turned it off.

I became anxious - bit like when your constipated and somebody is waiting to use the toilet - i couldn't cope with it.

Wow. That's taken you a long time to repeat one of your previous points

To get a little pedantic though - it's not the basic premise. The basic premise is that of a group of people on a mission to the sun to save mankind. The heat shield, to which you have taken such exception, is merely a plot device.

I notice you haven't addressed my previous points about this, but I'll expand a little on them anyway. It's fun...

The shield doesn't absorb heat. It reflects it. Now - currently I doubt we could make materials which could act as the perfect reflector (which is what I imagine it would take) - but this film is set 50 years into the future, so it's not against the bounds of possibility. The shield is also not flat - it's a squashed hemisphere, iirc - so it doesn't reflect anything straight back to the sun (I don't know how much difference this would make, but it is related to the points you have made, and it becomes crucial for sections of the plot, as can the fact that the angle of the mirrors can be individually controlled. It has been extremely well thought out by the film makers)

Honestly - I can find a lot of flaws in Sunshine - enjoy it as I did - especially with the whole ending sequence - I'm a little surprised that you're picking on such a small and comparatively insignificant 'flaw' (if that's what it is) in the film, as opposed to, say, the whole touching-the-sun sequence, which looked great, but was a serious 'huh?' moment for me...

    Exit Through the Gift Shop

We just watched this one on DVD.

It's a documentary, made by Banksy, and I was curious to see it, as I love much of his art. It was, however, not what I was expecting. It's one of those films that I really can't say much about, as it wouldn't do to have any of the rather strange twists and turns spoiled - but suffice to say, I was in a state of utter disbelief by the end, and had to hit Google just confirm that the film was actually on the level. Truth, it seems, really can be far stranger than fiction.

The trailer describes the film as a "The world's first street art disaster movie" - and I had no idea what that meant when the film started. By the end, that promise is fulfilled in ways one just could not anticipate (unless you already know something about the events described)

Very funny in places, extremely entertaining, and puts a whole new slant on the street art movement. Highly recommended.

Er, don't agree with you on the plot device/basic premise issue.

As for the technicalities: we will have to disagree on the feasibility of such 'star-probe'. I'm afraid I can't interest myself in the fate of the protagonists when all I'm thinking about is - where's all the heat going? As in Core - where's all the rubble going? Or Alien - bloody hell, how did that thing gain a hundredweight in less than 24 hours with no food source?

Well - now I've explained it all for you, I'm pleased to have given you the means to enjoy the film! HTH

How do you know it had no food source? Just because the film didn't show it eating anything, doesn't mean that it didn't, say, find some of the crew's food stores and gorge itself... (for example)

I don't know yet. If you want to say why you think the heat shield is the basic premise (or major part thereof), rather than a plot device, I'll tell you. Or I'll agree with you. Depending on what your arguments are.

Nah, that's OK. I just don't agree with you, that's all.

    The Kings Speech

I found it slow but brilliantly acted by Colin Firth.

    Mother.

Another brilliant, haunting and thought-provoking film from South Korea.
