Nor can I, not with any degree of certainty (note that Laptop versions of cards are often specced differently from mainstream versions, so just checking reviews of the card isn't really enough).

For that amount of money, I would ring up and ask. If they can't tell you, that tells you something about the company you are dealing with (and will have to go back to if you have any problems).

My local trusted computer supplier is recommending

    30” TFT Display LG W3000H-BN resolution of 2560 x 1600

    Dell Notebook – M4400
    Intel Core II Duo 2.8Ghz
    4Gb Ram
    FX 1700M Graphics Card
    500Gb Hard Drive
    DVD Writer
    15.4” Widescreen WUXGA display

Dell seem to be the only laptop with this Graphics Card

only down side, 32 bit, but most Lightroom users say 32 bit is fine

going up to 8 GB Ram and 64 bit OS adds £500

Thank you everybody, for all your help

The Dell has just arrived and its absolutely fantastic

    This what I got

Dell Precision M6400 17in Widescreen WUXGA (1920X1200) ATI FirePro M7740 Graphic Card. Separate Dell 3008WFP 30 inch ( 2560 x 1600) Monitor connected via a DisplayPort on a Dell dock

I very nearly bough a Mac book Pro, but Dell offered me a big discount so I am still with Widows

Only just noticed this - I've had an ACER laptop with a DVI port for 3 years, and it wasn't that expensive then. AS DF said though, in reality, people with normal eyes will not see much of a difference between DVI and VGA.

You need a dual-link DVI to drive a 30" monitor though, and they seem to be thinner on the ground.

When Phil asked about this before, I actually asked for suggestions on a laptop forum and no-one responded. Whether that's apathy or such laptops really are very rare I couldn't tell you.

It tuned out to be a very difficult question

As far as I can make out, most on board graphic cards, fitted to "normall" laptops, will not drive a 2560 x 1600, 3000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio,
    30 inch moniter
    ,
The ATI FirePro M7740 Is made specifcally for Dell, and seems to be only availabel with the Precision M6400

The only other laptop I could find was a Mac book Pro ( yes I know, I should have stated with a Mac in the first place and I can see why so many photographers use Macs)

I just got Lightroom dual diplay working, and the display is mindblowing

The purpose of the Display, is to sell large (expensive) photographic prints and I sure its is going to do the job
