Choose the eight books to take with you to a desert island. (excluding the Bible or other religious work and Shakespeare - these already await the "castaway") Also choose a favorite CD or LP ) and a luxury which must be inanimate and have no practical use
Trilogies, and the like, can count as one choice
ok..
1. The entire 32 volume Encyclopaedia Britannica - very handy for all manner of things.
2. Gray's Anatomy - Just in case I need to operate on myself.
3. Anatomy for Dummies in case Gray's is too much for me !
4. SAS Survival Handbook - Again.. totally practical.
5. House Builders Health and Safety Manual -- I'll need somewhere to live.
6. Encyclopedia of Electrochemical Power Sources, Five-Volume Set (Hardcover) I'll need power.. eventually.
7. Successful Small-scale Farming: An Organic Approach
8. Grow your own drugs - James Wong
CD - Vivaldi - Four Seasons.
Inanimate object with no use what so ever - well.. EVERYTHING has some sort of use? a Portable DVD player and my entire DVD collection
1 The Wilt -Tom Sharp
I was taught by Tom Sharp and Cambridge. The story is not as fictitious as you might think, but with exception of Don Cox the names of the teachers have change. The teacher of Gas fitters 4 is definitely Noddy Peters
2 War and Peace Tolstoy
I might just get past page 30
3 Oxford Dictionary of Quotations
4 A short history of nearly everything - Bill Bryson
I don’t think a long version exists
5 The Gormenghast Trilogy Mervyn Peake
IMHO much much better than Lord of the rings
6 An Original of Terre des Hommes - Antoine de Saint Exupéry
( Can I be allowed Wind, Sand and Stars the English paperback translation as well ?)
7 Atlas of the Universe Patrick Moore
This goes with my luxury
8 Michael Palin Diaries Michael Palin
His description of the Python years brings back so many wonderful memories
My CD Moby 18
We Are All Made Of Stars is my all time favorite tune
And my luxury item
a 10 Inch refracting telescope complete with equatorial mount

you might like these then
Interesting call reflector or refractor telescope
At 10 inches you would be better of with a 6 inch reflecting telescope.Refracting telescopes have two main problems—images are not always clear because the light is being bent and the size of the lens is limited (which limits the power of the telescope).
In terms of cost a 15 inch relector would be cheaper then 10 inch refractor and a lot better although refractors are more sturdy need less maintenace
If you want to view dim stuff ,reflector
However desert island the refractor likely to last longer with fewer problems
Tough decision
If you want to watch the girls shower binoculars everytime
