The air-con on my car packed up yesterday but it was good timing, as its been picked up today for its 10,000 service

One thing I love about my car, its got 'cooling seats' which work a bit like an air hockey table, blowing nice cool air round ya bits!

According to the BBC, a heatwave occurs when the temperatures get over a certain threshold. The threshold varies from place to place, but averages at around 30. We have a similar idea in New Zealand, but there we call it summer.

We did have sun today, though showers forecast. Had a couple of spare hours and popped to the park, glad I did, its now clouding over occasionally - hopefully a bit cooler later, new venue opening tonight and I expect it will be really busy.

I am so jealous I am melting in this heat, but not complaining . It makes me laugh though yes it is a heat wave, but I don't think we've had the continuous glorious sunshine to match the heat, its been, well intermittent sunshine with clouds and rain in the NW.

Anyway I spent the best part of today in the garden, and at Farmer Teds near Formby, the red squirrals at Fromby point didn't win today above the beautiful little man's love of tractors.

    Re: The coming heatwave

Well I’m really lucky all the great brains of the Mental Health Trust (for some reason I was not asked) that I work for got together for an emergency meeting and came up with this plan to get us through

Heatwave – how to keep yourself cool
    • Whilst it’s hotter outside than inside, keep curtains and windows closed.
    • Once it cools down in the evening and the temperature drops lower outside than inside, open the windows.
    • Water plants as this helps the room stay cool.
    • Stay out of the sun between 11am and 3pm/stay in the shade.
    • Reduce your level of exertion.
    • Take regular cool showers/body wash.
    • Wear light loose cotton clothing.
    • Use a damp cloth on the back of your neck/face to cool down.
    • Eat cold foods and drink plenty of water.

Well I’m ok now I know how to survive because my plan was to whack the air conditioning up

Well, despite the 30 degree heat yesterday, I still managed to spend 5 hours with the hot air gun stripping the fireplace in the bedroom...

Actually glad to be back in the air conditioned office today!

Actually quite a sensible list. Especially for the first two, most offices get that the wrong way round and open every single window. Case in point, i am sitting in a large open plan office with 10 5ft square windows - all of which are open with the blinds up. Luckily, the larger space and a few large fans make it ok. As for the other points you'd think they'd be obvious, but I have seen many many people do the opposite.

Perhaps we could compile a list of venues that have adequate air-con. I enjoyed Luton Riverside on Tuesday, and plan to go to the freestyle tomorrow.

No wonder I've been feeling ill with the heat today.

The only time I felt comfortable was the couple of hours I spent in the library - at least I finally got some reading done!

These flats don't have much ventilation at the best of times and I can't even have a cool shower thanks to the stupid set water temperature.

Me and Gav like to sit out in the conservatory occasionally with the candles on, glass of wine relax away from the kids.

Unfortunately, I made the mistake of leaving the candles out there in the last few days.

Funny thing is, I hail from Brisbane Australia where the summer temps hit 30C plus regularly - but I must admit I was feeling the heatwave as it were - the last couple of days seemed a bit balmy for me here in Glasgow.

Maybe I've become acclimatised to the U.K. weather a bit too much?! That's not a good thing when I fly back to Brisbane in the middle of its summer later this year...

What's the humidity like in Brisbane? The bit I don't like about the recent UK weather is the humidity - dry heat is much more bearable.

    Re: The coming heatwave

As my name suggests, I am rather fond of that great golden orb - but five and a half hours of it beating down on me today with no respite (whilst doing a boot sale), was a little bit much - even for me. I now have some rather (un)fetching strapmarks on my right shoulder and a bit of a glow on.

Apologies to anyone I dance with tonight - I am going to be a little bit greasy - and tender !
