Thats a bit of an 'od' question.. did you mean Objective?
I've edited the title now, so it makes the above seem a bid od.... to explain, Nick made a little typo, in the title
A little question, the clue is I'm specifically talking about partner dancing.

Dancing doesn't have an objective (although it can be an adjective). Dancing is an activity and objectives require intention which has to come from an agent (ie a person). And I would guess if you asked 100 different people why they dance, you could well get more than 100 different answers. The reason is that everyone will have their own reasons - objectives, if you like - for dancing.
I could tell you why I dance, but that wouldn't really help a great deal. Some people may try and tell you what they think your reasons for dancing should be (ie project their own reasons onto you). But that helps even less.
The only advice I'd give is figure out why YOU dance then act in accordance with that. Make sure you're happy with yourself and worry less about what others think and say. Of course, the choice is yours.
Yeah, whats the objective? Why bother? I'm too numb to feel pleasure anymore, where I look back upon my life and only see a wasted youth, in a world where millions starve to death, where my existence on this Earth will not make any significant difference whatsoever, in an unfeeling, incomprehensible universe where one day we will all be forgotten as if we'd never EVEN BEEN HERE - whats the point of it all? Why should I continue to live when I know that all that faces me in my future is disappointment, suffering and mental and physical decay? Why don't I just host a communal jump-off-a-cliff and end everyone's suffering now as bloody pulp on the rocks below? WHY BOTHER IN A COLD, SICK WORLD WHERE NOBODY CARES AND NOTHING YOU DO MAKES THE SLIGHTEST DIFFERENCE?!!?!
Well, in answer to all the questions above:
Dancing is pretty fun. I also enjoy the feel of woman.
Thanks for asking!
Sorry about that, I just found the question pretty redundant. Who doesn't dance for pleasure? Almost sounds like you're supposed to reach Nirvana at some point when you learn enough dancing.
I'm guessing, but I think this is a reaction to another thread, where comments such as:
imply there is an expectation that other things come before your own pleasure.
Aaah, I see. Without that background knowledge, the question of the thread is still pretty profound.
You're joking..! No wonder I'm lonely.imply there is an expectation that other things come before your own pleasure.
In all seriousness though, doesn't that still fall into the 'pleasure' category? Call me modern but 90% of the enjoyment I get is from seeing the woman enjoying herself. Of course things come before your own pleasure, but nobody starts dancing because they want to make strangers happy and be robotically sterile to their own happiness, its a personal goal.
Your personal pleasure is simply entwined with the enjoyment the Follow feels, CheesyRobMan also says:
In terms of dancing ability I get more of a warm fuzzy feeling after an off-beat, repetitive, arm-yanking dance of 4 beginners' moves with a new beginner who grins and says "thank you so much, that was brilliant!" than a smooth, connected, varied dance with an experienced follow who obviously doesn't want to be there.

For me it goes back to a Ceroc holiday and my first Tango lesson, where the teacher said the objective in Tango is to be at one with your partner,
I thought about it, and I think it goes for all partner dances, it makes the complex, easy moves question a no brainer as you should always perform moves which your parter can follow, if they can follow complex moves all the better.
There are of course fitness, social, etc, resons, but to be as one with my partner is my objective, whoever that is.
Everything, absolutely everything, that you do makes a difference, we just do not know what the differences are.
The human race is here because it was built for persistence and stamina. Kids throw themselves around in play because activity prepares them for their life ahead, and they are rewarded by pleasure hormones when they are active. All hormones reduce with age because the human is designed to be controlled by its brain and what it has learned, not so much by impulse.
One reason humans dance is because it is playing to music, and that gets the happy hormones going.
One reason we partner dance is because we get happy hormones from being around the opposite sex, we are doing something evoultionary "right".
A reason we partner dance in communities is because humans work best when very different minds contribute to a common task. Dance is one way incompatible people can share a common joyous experience, and build outwards from there.
Actually, Ceroc may be the way to world peace.
But, as I said, we do not know what difference we make.
