    Re: Strictly Come Dancing 2009

Michaella Walker, who is the franchisee for Ceroc Central, is a trained Ballroom teacher, and has danced ballroom at a high level. She has taught thousands to dance, perhaps into five figures. Many of her pupils have been inspired to become teachers themselves, and several are running their own venues around the world. She also has a wicked sense of humour. She has done far more for dance and dancers than Alesha, and I would rather see her as a judge.

I still believe Modern Jive should be a week one dance, to ease contestants in, and promote dancing for all.

How on earth did Jo Wood escape the dance-off?

I said to my better half that the moment Craig opened his mouth and criticised them they would survive. Sure enough.

What's the young black fella called? I want to change my vote from Joe to him...he's looking quite promising.

I thought Joe was gonna be a bit niffty on the dance floor...turns out he's got as much grace and dancing ability as Odd Bod from Carry on Screaming.

Ricky Whittle. I had a feeling he'd be good, he was the one I was looking forward to watching.

judging : i was thinking (this happens occasionaly) and i thought - why are people complaining about Alesha not being qualified to judge due to being an ex-contestant and winner of a dance show? no one complains about Cheryl Cole being a judge on x-factor and she is an ex-contestant and winner of a singing show? eh eh ? is it cos she is black ?

In my case it's because I don't watch the X-Factor, so I couldn't care less who judges it.

Maybe because the X Factor judges aren't just looking for singing skill but for a commercial 'voice' and 'look'. They want someone who will sell records. Cheryl Cole has some experience of the market after she was a winner in a singing show. If she had just been a contestant and then not been involved in the music industry then she probably wouldn't be as credible a judge.

Or if Alesha had spent the two years since she won SCD dancing professionally, and teaching dance, then she would probably be viewed differently as a judge.

Although, I do find Alesha extremely irritating with her "head shaking, finger clicking, girl power, full of ethnic Beyonce attitude" stance.

Christ I hope not…maybe I am racist after all because it really irritates me when she goes all "Beyonce". I think it's the attitude that bothers me more than anything, which would annoy me no matter what colour she was.

Phew! Thought I was going to have to join the BNP then.

I think you're way off the mark there.

Personally, I think it's for no other reason the fact that she's taken the place of Arlene.

I have nothing against Alesha, but, given the choice, I would much rather listen to what Arlene had to say about a dance performance than what Alesha has to say. I think the sacking of Arlene is the crux of the problem.

I'm not suggesting they should, but for argument sake, if the BBC decided to place Alesha as an EXTRA judge & keep Arlene (5 judges), - they'd be no problem with Alesha whatsoever.

edit - just read DT post above, - okay they'd still be problems obviously - but not to any degree that there is now!

By asking the question you've suggested that it might be possibility, and I think you're way off the mark.

What do you think of the reason I've stated above? Do you think i'm way off the mark too? Or do you think it's more likely that people are criticising her because she is black?

That did pass through my mind, - but without actually hearing your (I'm sure brilliant) accent impersonation, no , and then stating that it was just a question, - I presumed that the similarity to AliG was a coincidence!

But apparently Kristina is quite happy with his horizontal mambo

    Re: Strictly Come Dancing 2009

Well, I feel I must retract my previous comments about Alesha. After a wobbly first week, she has improved and is clearly vastly preferable to the stumbling alliterations and hectoring tone of her predecessor (at least for for me). She makes some good points which are certainly no worse than Arlene - and she is so much easier on the eye and the ear.

The only thing (which I think they must have told her about 'cos she toned it down a bit) is her occasional dirty cackling laugh.......

Twill be interesting to see Arlene on the Think you can dance gig - and how she handles it.

    Re: Strictly Come Dancing 2009

I've just watched Saturday nights episode...

Am I the only person who screamed at the telly during the 'professional' Salsa routine? It was diabolical

Anyway, I agree with JL, I think Alesha's doing OK now. She's definitely better than I'd expected

Two people stand out a head and shoulders above the rest for me and thats Ali Bastion and Ricky Whittle.

There's a couple I enjoy watching, Phil Tufnel and Ricky Groves but not really for the quality of there dance, just the entertainment factor

and there's a few that are so cringy, that I had to fast forward!

    EAR !!!???!??!?!?!?
Have to agree to differ on that one...her spoken grammar leaves a lot to be desired, a fact I had not gleaned from her year as a contestant, and offends both of my ears. Will be interesting to see if her *people* arrange for her to be 'enry 'igginsed...
