I read today that Arlene is to be dropped as a judge. The producers (apparently) want to appeal to a younger audience and are potentially going to have Alesha as her replacement.* My view is that Arlene is the weakest of the judges - and any potential replacement is better - although Alesha may be too 'nice'. (Contracts have not yet been signed!)
They also want to 'sex it up' by bringing in more American dancers (hmmm so USA = sexier?) and celebs who will have raunchier dances......
I wonder if this will be the start of a slowish fall from the peaks as each year it has to be sexier and raunchier and more daring....................like Big Brother.
* Rumours of David Bailey replacing Len Goodman have not yet been confirmed.
I was at the NEC last week and they were already advertising the 2010 Live Tour!
IMO, from what I saw of the US version and the UK specials where they've had US stars on, the standard of the US celebs is nowhere near as good as the UK ones.
As much as I like Alisha, I don't think she should be a judge. I don't mind if they replace any of the judges, but they should be replaced with a 'qualified' judge. Alisha would be representing the 'unqualified' public view, which is what the phone voting is for.
Someone will have to update this Wikipedia article if Lily became a judge.
Looks like it is official now See Here
Alisha Dixon was very nice and sweet and danced beautifully to her choreographed routines but that does not make her an expert and it’s just another example of dumbing down, which is a shame as Strictly has been one of my favourite programmes and the only one I felt was passed their sell by date was Bruce.
You have to remember that this is not a regular dance competition. Since one of the couple is not an experienced dancer, it would be pointless judging them as if they were. Only Len is a professional judge - Craig, Bruno and Arlene are actually choreographers, and to be honest Arlene demonstrated in the first series that her knowledge of ballroom dancing wasn't really very expert. I believe that the role of such a judge is to assess whether the performance works as a performance, and I think a number of people on this forum could do this equally as well as Arlene, albeit with different subjective opinions. If Alesha was good enough to win the competition then in my opinion this also makes her a good enough dancer to judge in this capacity.
Obviously Aleesha will have to be totally unbiased towards her former partner! Maybe he'll be dropped to avoid any bitching about it when the judging doesn't go the way the competitors want.
That's an interesting dimension which I hadn't considered............hmmmm
My main contention is that Alesha will just be too nice to everyone - and, much as I did not like Arlene as a judge, there was a certain frisson to some of the arguments.
I hope Alesha does not get coached in the sort of American "O-h m-y G-o-d that was f-a-n-t-a-s-t-i-c" sychophantic......stuff
What qualification should a SCD judge have ?Originally Posted by Oscar Wild
At least, unlike any of the other judges, Alesha will know exactly what it is like to be on other side of the judges table. As a past winner she must also know what is required to win the completion
Do remember, the only real completion is between the BBC and ITV
I suspect, I not the only one who rather watch Alesha than Arlene

IMO they should have made Karen Hardy a judge instead of Alesha.
