Do you see this as religion screwing people up, or screwed up people looking to religion?
Just mooching around in DIGG and found this.
An interesting read but I do have a dim view of all religion.

I have had personal experience of these people through my Parents in the late 70's and all I can say is STAY WELL CLEAR they are all about money and only money, the have very convincing and clever methods of getting you to part with your money. Granted I am not a religious person but a religion (if you can call it that) started by a Sci Fi Author should send a strong warning of doubt in anyone's mind.
Realised yesterday that they have a huge headquarters (or offices, or something) a couple of doors away from the new office we move to in a month's time, down on Queen Victoria Street in London. Nice friendly sign on the door offering "guided tours". Somehow I don't think I'll be taking them up on that one!
You'd have to be some sort of really gullible or easily swayed sort of person to be tempted int.. oh look! they've got cake !!
I walked past that place one day on my random wanders I think.. near a big Sally Army place as well if I recall? Wonder if they ever have pitched street battles?

Surely he's become too well known to get away with that nowdays, at least with an organization as well entrenched and protectionist as the Church of Scientology.
Besides, I'd quite like to see who'd come out on top in a fight between Barry and the leaders of the Scientology movement. I'm kind of hoping Barry would win, but I think the extra weight of the unthinking masses the Scientologists can muster would probably pull him down eventually
Personally, I've met the best and the worst of religious type in my life. While I can't say I have any fondness for religion myself the people who have put serious thought into their religious beliefs, accepted them and choose to live by them have my respect. Most of these are people I am glad to consider friends.
It's the ones who find religion (or zealotry of any other flavour) because it's easier to have someone else tell you what to believe than decide for themselves that irritate me. Scientologists falls firmly into this camp in my opinion, and the people who manipulate them are dangerous. Several members of my extended family have gotten caught up with them in the past and all suffered for it.
