Anyone got any comments on Blitz events? There's an evening in Leeds advertised as a slower music evening which Judith and I are thinking of trying out.... combined with a visit to daughter who lives near those parts.
Not many there, and if the music being played most of the night was 'slower', then all I can say is that the normal mix must be fast Rock'n'Roll! After 2 hours of faster music we pointed out that we had travelled for 2.5 hours to come to what had been advertised as a 'slower' music night of blues, Latin and swing. So the DJ (very agreeably, I have to say) started playing slower tracks for the last 40 minutes... which was much better.
As a general point I do get frustrated by people's descriptions of events... it's not the first time I've gone somewhere advertised as Chill/Blues/etc and found the night has basically been no different to a standard Jive night because a few standard jivers turn up to try it out, don't like the first few slow tracks... so the DJ then plays faster stuff to please them (the normal clientele of the venue) rather than those who turn up to what has been advertised.
Anway... full marks to the venue staff for their understanding and attitude once this was pointed out!
Ah ... misunderstanding on both parts. The 'Chill' event I was referring to was today (Sunday) ... and was VERY quiet ... but things may change. Friday's event was billed as a standard freestyle and as it was up against the main (regular) event, DJ Gary at Tadcaster, I'm surprised there were many there at all.
