I use it (version 2, MacOS) - it's a great piece of software. No real downsides that I can think of, and if you do a lot of photography, it's well worth the purchase.

Don't use it at the moment, but the person who does my wedding processing does - and it has the ability to do amazing recovery from shadows, even with jpeg (& far better with raw). She has written a guide - http://www.lightroomqueen.com/. Since pretty much her whole life is spent correcting files, if I was going to use the software, I'd buy the book.
That said, was at a seminar today given by a photographer I respect hugely (& my mentor) and some of the photographs he showed had extremely good colour and skin tones which came out of raw processing via CaptureOne, which he thinks produces the best colour possible, especially with colourful images like late afternoon portraits shot into the light.
I've used Lightroom a lot, as has Mr Danceportraits, and it's excellent. It allows really high throughput of first pass editing, but also enough features so that it'll probably be all you need for your full editing too. We never found any real snags, at least not that haven't been fixed in version 2. Enjoy
Any one tried Beta 3 yet
