Beginners would hate it - some already feel a bit out of depth, and in some venues they could feel ostracised for being newbies (although may prevent some leaders flinging them around the place in freestyle even when warned that they're new and go easy on them!). I did hear about one venue that had them for beginners but they didn't go down well. Personally I'd hate it - it's bad enough in workshops where there's only a few people's names to actually remember
I'm generally good with names once I know them, but unless you ask people on first meeting them, 2 years down the line is a bit late.
It always bemuses me that after taxiing for close to 2 years at one venue, being dragged up on stage to be introduced as taking the beginners practise session etc, people still have no idea what my name is (usually by intermediates who talk through the beginners class, even though they came to the beginners sessions that I ran!).
