It's not a death sentence...thousands of people have got it in Mexico and only a small % have actually died.

Apparently, we have 33 million shots of Tamiflu stock piled in Britain. Not enough for the whole country...what to do, what to do????

Good idea to raise this issue as we all come into close contact when dancing.
and germs can be transmitted through hand contact as well as in the air.

It's Early days on this at the moment but I guess it is set to play out over the next few weeks/months...

Providing we are all sensible and following the guidlines there is not much else we can do.

I would guess the ones who will suffer most are the young, very old and people with low immune systems and respiratory problems but we are all vunerable and potential carriers of this virus.

This is the inevitable price of living.

I don't think we need to panic yet....

I saw a couple of people this morning wearing surgical masks (the 'proper', expensive ones too).
The funny thing was, they had them dangling around their necks!
Did the think that the nasty germs would see the scary masks and run away?

Nah, by the time the government react and start giving it out, the other 28 million will be dead already anyway.

Another over hyped media panic. People die in this country every year from flu and all the cases in UK have been mild

I will carry on taking sensible hygiene precautions like washing my hands after dancing but other than that I will carry on as normal.

Me too - still I didn't feel too bad, so I got up out of my sty had some trough and then trotted off to work. Anyway, the one strange symptom I seem to have is a craving for apple sauce.

Apparently the boss is in the mood to give me a roasting later as well.

As to your carnal habits with pigs..whatever turns you on

Too many bacon sandwiches only gives you "swine Fever" NOT "Swine Flu"

Or perhaps not. The 1918 Flu pandemic killed mainly healthy young adults, and the reports from Mexico are that there are several similar deaths there.

It is hypothesised that in such circumstances, deaths are due to a cytokine storm (essentially an over reaction of the immune system), which is actually more likely amongst those with a healthy immune system.

I think it's fair to say that it's the cytokine storm scenario that a lot of people are freaking out about - there are still people with memories from 1918 of "Dad was a healthy young man, felt ill in the morning, and was dead by the evening". But it doesn't seem to have happened in any of the cases outside Mexico, and so much from Mexico seems rumour or unconfirmed that we're not really sure what's happening there either.

Outside of Mexico, it doesn't seem any worse than the typical seasonal flu. The $64000 question is why it seems much worse inside Mexico. (One highly plausible hypothesis: there are actually a lot more cases in Mexico than we've heard about, the vast majority of people fight it off without needing treatment. Coupled with increased deaths due to people living in a city at altitude with some of the worst air pollution in the world).

Mostly sensible advice, although apparently those most vulnerable to this one tend to be the apparently young and healthy. Heard something on the radio the other day about it, but couldn't find much when googling just now, but it's probably based on this which I did find:

It seems that predicted death tolls are based on stats from past outbreaks - but of course we didn't have so much in the way of anti-virals and hygiene awareness back then.

    Anyway, fingers crossed!

It is not germs, it is a virus.

Through non-intimate body contact, like MJ, only a few virus are likely to be transmitted. The body has just a bit longer to organise its defences. an air borne virus arrives in vast quantities, there can be 10,000 in a single cell. If there is an serious outbreak MJ venues will be closed.

...I would guess the ones who will suffer most are the young, very old and people with low immune systems and respiratory problems...
I have read a theory that so many of the deaths in the 1918 pandemic were amongst the young and healthy because they were killed because their immune system over-reacted.

Viruses are actually included under the umbrella term "germs " too.

Absolute nonsense - you can get swine flu just be LOOKING at a pig. And if its wearing a bonnet and lipstick - the chances of you catching anything are much much higher
