Daft Advice On The Dance Floor

Well I've either missed something or I have got it all wrong but...

Last week a guy was giving a demo of what blues dancing was at the end of the night. And apparantly...

    - Blues is always danced in slot
    - Jive is never in slot
    - Blues is the same dance as WCS but without the footwork

Now under that logic, if you dance in a slot to Candyman at 100mph, are you automatically doing blues?

    Hmm...

Anyways, what other random odd advice have you heard on the dancefloor?

I've been told a few times not to wiggle (told by men ) as women don't like it, now that's daft.

Now that's clearly because they don't want to admit that women do like it. Otherwise they'll have to accept that you're better than they are!

Daft isn't the word. Your wiggle is truly a wonder; I for one could watch you for hours

Depends on what size bum the women who don't like it have

A long long time, ago, and this was a comment on my dancing in general, not about any particular move...

"You're putting in too many steps."

Oh, don't get me wrong, I have now come to terms with the wiggle but I did try to eliminate it for quite a while, its part of me now and if I was able to lose it I'd be found out as the basic move dancer I am

I started a dance with one guy who told me I wasn't gripping his hand tightly enough...

... it went downhill from there

I've been told I was dancing wrong because I didn't start with a semicircle or use signals.

Gav, didn't you once post that a teacher told you to put more bounce into it?

I`ve heard some nonsense in my time but whoever said this really has no idea of what they are talking about...it`s a bit worrying really as they have obviously never done a WCS/Blues or a Jive class!

Nope - I'm too polite for that
I just said, "Well you followed that well enough without one!"

Not a teacher, just an "experienced" dancer.

    Gripping

I guess the back of your hand was bruised the next day where he had pushed his thumb down

The common denominator here is that for some reason the "Guys" (leader) ALWAYS seem to think they are the "expert".

As the ladies know they are not..and therefore are not allowed to have a say.

The "Guys" think that they are at the class because they "know it all"

That's a bit of a sweeping generalisation isn't it? (not to mention wrong ).

My post above is referring to an experienced lady who was giving me duff advice as a beginner.

There have also been plenty of occasions when (usually out in the sticks) ladies take it upon themselves to tell guys they're doing a move wrong in freestyle, when in fact it was the ladies anticipating a move that the guy wasn't even leading!

I'm guessing it was probably a lady that told Baruch to use signals and semi-circles too!

Thats got to be under good avice (if correct) many women and I guess men, dance far too many 'steps' and hence are way out on the beat
