My knee went whilst dancing last night. A real sudden sharp pain. It came and went within seconds and I carried on dancing.
However it then happened twice more during the night and by the end I could hardly bear weight on it.
It's kept me awake all night and 'pops' if I straighten it or bend it. I can only bend it to around a sitting position. Any further back than that (either by trying to move it or by moving it with my hands) results in sharp pain.
Any ideas?
Our local hospital physio departments have walk-in clinics or advice phone lines. Check if you have the same in your area - will save you a lot of time and hassle in the long run to get it seen by the right people straight away!
Just call docs and they told me to go up hospital as all the doctor would do is send me up there anyway.
My money's on a ruptured cranial cruciate ligament
Hope you are on your way to A&E now Lee.
Take an arnica tablet or rub arnica cream on the knee.
If it's cruciate ligament damage, expect not to be dancing for a long while. Get it checked out quick.
I've managed to avoid surgery thankfully, but I've had some knee injuries that occasionally come back to haunt me. My knee pops when I extend it most of the time, but I have a full range of pain-free motion.
When I was young I was hit by a car and took some pretty serious damage to the cruciate ligament. I was on crutches for the better part of six months, so I sincerely hope that the same thing hasn't occurred to you Lee.
I don't remember what other horrible stuff happened to it, but I'm particularly good at predicting the weather now so at least there was a silver lining somewhere. I do remember having blood drained from the joint with a syringe though. That was unpleasant.....
Funny enough, I done it whilst cocking my leg up and having a pee.
Just got back from a & e. 4 hours wait to be told to make an appointment at reception for fracture clinic. Guess I will find out more on Wednesday.
Been told to rest up and have crutches. A couple of days with pizza, haribo and some DVD's on the recliner sofa makes it feel less painful.
Didn't they tell you to ice it? "I am not a doctor", but I think there are few circumstances in which icing an injury would be a bad idea.
[As I don't like the cold, my personal touchstone for "is this a bad injury?" is whether or not icing it feels like a good thing or not].
