just be glad that wasn't the week they were teaching the crotchapult
I arrived at a CerocScotland class last night to do the freestyle.
The intermediate lesson was still going on and I was very surprised to see one of the moves being taught:-
Standing facing partner
holding one hand.
Bring follower towards you
Stop follower coming closer by placing your hand on her upper inner thigh and pushing her backwards.
To be fair, I did not hear the actual instruction when the move was first taught, but all the leaders I observed in the class were doing it that way.
Several ladies who did not attend the class were more than a bit shocked when this move was tried during freestyle.
I felt it was not really appropriate for a freestyle.
Am I just too much of a fuddy duddy ?

I know someone who leads with his inner thigh.
I'm surprised the big bowl of car keys in the middle of the room didn't tip you off that you'd just walked into the wrong venue.
Someone said to me at the weekend that a friend of his had thought Ceroc was some kind of swapping venue....................
I've never heard of a move like this. You're not a fuddy duddy - I'd never do a move like this myself and I'm fairly certain that most follows I know would not expect such a move to be led on them. I often block on the outside of the follow's hip but the chances of mis-aiming mean that inside of the thigh is a definite no-go area.
Where was this taught? I'm suspecting that either the teacher was smoking something or the class was suffering from mass hysteria

This move is really nice... but I lead it almost like a side-to-side, then push away on the hip... inner thigh.... ummmmm... nice variation, I'll have to give that a try.
Talking of inappropriate places to put your hand when dancing, am I the only one who has ever free spun a partner and then reached out to take their upper arm... only to find that they have decided to double spin and their elbow suddenly feels like the front of a bra
Hi John, it was nice to see you and have a dance last night.
I was in the class you're talking about, and the instruction given was to block with the heel of the hand on the lady's hip. The teacher made a point of emphasising to the leads, in a humorous way, that it should be the hip and not any other part of the lady's anatomy.
I was leading in the class so I can't offer any personal experience of how other leaders fared with this move, but I certainly made a point of checking with all the ladies I danced with that it was actually their hip I was making contact with.
Only one man led this move on me in freestyle, and it was definitely my hip that he blocked!
That's a pretty good description StokeBloke
See what happens when you miss the class John! Not fuddy-duddy, just missing out on the teaching bit!
I was in the class and my hip was blocked by all the leaders (including Firefly - who did indeed check that it was my hip, though I did give the pointer to at least one bloke, who maybe wasn't paying attention, that the fingers should also probably be angled away from the followers crotch).
One of the leaders also tried it on me tonight in Glasgow - and got the move spot-on. I even managed (on the second block) to raise my hands as we'd been shown - felt good.
Not a fuddy-duddy for long if you can't tell a hip from an inner thigh!
PS sorry I missed you for a dance - I meant to ask you but you'd left before I managed it
Errrrrrm - no - similar incidents have been known to happen. Occasionally. In the dim and distant past. Moving on...
Actually - if you haven't listenened to the Yehoodi podcasts, there's a couple of discussions of this exact issue, one from the followers' point of view, and one from the leads POV.
Follows POV: Podcast 1, at 12:20
Leads POV: Podcast 5, about two minutes in
Getting a little further off-topic, the podcasts are well worth a listen - yes, they're Lindy-based, but it's all partner dance - there are two different series, each being a free and frank exchange of views, one for leads, and one for follows. And they are very, very funny.
Warning: as the series goes on, the guys get progressively closer and closer to the line, in terms of innuendo. The ladies, on the other hand, ignore the line completely. Not for the prudish
I confess, I've got a couple of little variations, where 'if' the opportinity presents itself, I grab the guys thigh and use it to push off of.
I know, I'm bad!

Oh I daren't bother here! It's like walking blindfolded in an innuendo minefield.
It is bound to end in tears, or infracktion points.
It is just so easy, must resist.
