    Brean Sands WCS/Line Weekender 27 Feb - 2 March 2009

Time for a poll to see who else is going to this. It was a cracking weekend last year, great tutition, fun competitions and loads and loads of social dancing. Additionally, its' probably the best value weekender of all, less than a £100 pp for event and acommodation. I booked late last year and still had a club chalet all for myself for £90. Arjay and Melissa are the guest teachers for WCS this year, I think it's going to be a cracker again.

    So, will you be there?

It was good last year, the only thing about the event this year round is that there is loads more choice and it`s a very busy time of year so i`m not sure if as many WCS dancers will be going. Bearing in mind Skegness is on 2 weeks prior to this, and then a fair few westies are going to MadJam in Washington the weekend afterwards, then there is Cat and Paul`s workshop, Mario`s intensive and Southport all on the weekend after that means a busy and expensive time approaching....it wll be interesting to see what happens

Well, last year there was a Paul & Cat workshop on the same weekend.... But I think you are right, there is so much going on and people are having to make choices. I just think Brean is such good value and offers such a lot of bang for the buck that I hope it goes from strength to strength but that ain't going to happen without support from the punters. I'd say that class-wise I much prefer the smaller overall numbers at Brean than used to be the case for the Pros at Southport (I know that kinda goes against what I'm saying in terms of customer support but in absolute terms there aren't that many people wanting to do a whole weekend of WCS in this country yet compared with MJ) More generally I hope the ever expanding pool of WCS class nights helps to increase the dancer base rather than diluting what is there already.

That's my main problem this year what with having to try and earn brownie points

What's more annoying for this specific weekender is the timing - for once the other half is away that weekend but I'm still in recovery from my op so have to take it easy for a while

This will be quite a departure for me from the safety of my weekly WCS class as have not even done a WCS freestyle yet (hopefully tomorrow I will be taking my first tentative steps).

Am looking forward to Brean big time - despite being a little daunted by the prospect.

    You have been warned!

This of course is the Dream ticket for most! I`m not sure many can match Gerry`s prolific attendance at the moment!!!!

I`m wondering if Gerry`s dancing is being funded from the public purse bearing in mind that Gerry works for RBS!!!!

Don't be daunted. We really are nice people regardless what has been said.

Two years ago at WSM I took the plunge concerning my WCS social dancing, it was the best thing that I could do. Remember we all had to start once upon a time.

Remember to grab me for a dance or two, three, four......

You should definitely do it - and then you could give me lots of birthday dances

That'll be Lee's version of a musicality class, and a chance to sit on bums and rest our feet whilst hopefully learning something. I've no idea how he will keep it to an hour though...he gets rather carried away on the topic.

    Re: Brean Sands WCS/Line Weekender 27 Feb - 2 March 2009

What a fab weekend! The line dancers are so much fun and real party animals. Made for the most surreal after parties!
The workshops were very helpful, even though sunday's 4 consecutive hours was a bit of a killer!!
My best night was the Sunday, when we decided as we were leaving early, we would take over the Lunar's venue and plug in our ipod's so we could dance for a few hours before the official opening time. I didn't sit down once in the 3 hours and I loved every second. (My feet aren't loving it today though )
I was a bit worried before going to this weekender as I knew there would be no 'comfort zone' of Jive to fall into, if I was having confidence issues in my WCS.
I needn't have worried. The atmosphere was the most friendly and chilled of any weekender I've attended. The line dancers and westies seem to mix really well. No accusations of snootiness just lots of socialising between the two. The wcs crowd dancing one side and the line dancers on the other when there were tracks that suited both.
    Can't wait til next year!

Totally agree with you Di, theres something about this weekend that makes it really chilled. I also love the fact that lee tries to make it as sociable as possible too, beer pong, lol!

The line dancers were great, was really refreshing to meet some peeps that just accepted that we did our thing and they did theirs but we could still party together!

It looks so much cooler than i imagined too!love it!

    Re: Brean Sands WCS/Line Weekender 27 Feb - 2 March 2009

    Another enjoyable Brean weekend.

Arjay and Melissa workshops were thought provoking and offered a different angle on some of the fundamentals of the dance.

Plenty of floor space for the freestyles allowing you to travel if you wanted to.

Sunday night a bit thin numbers-wise, still fun for those of us left but a lot of people seem to see this as a weekend for travelling down after work on Fri then back late on the Sunday.

    Congrats to

    1 - DS87 and Naomi
2 - Rob (of rob+ami) and Spikey Blond
3 - Caro and a line dancer called George(?)
4 - Randall and Smiley Sue
    5 - Oli and ?

in the Jack n Jill. The final was made a part of the Saturday evening show in the main room and I think that worked well though it did disrupt people's prior plans for that evening in terms of when to eat, rest, etc.
