    Weekender help

Never been on a large weekender before - about to book my first but I can't make up my mind between Storm at Camber on the 6th March and Blush at Southport on the 13th March.

Any advice from peeps who have been to both places would be welcome.

I went to Storm last year, and I've been to Southport several times.

I see you're in Bedfordshire so, transport-wise, I'd guess that Camber's a bit closer to you - probably 2.5 hours' journey rather than 4+ hours for Southport. For me, in London, it's more like 2 hours / 5 hours, which is a significant difference.

Southport is definitely a better venue - more dance areas, closer together. And historically, being central, it's drawn a lot of dancers from all over the country.

I think that Blush is aimed a bit more at the slightly-more-experienced dancers, but I'm not really sure how much difference that makes in practical terms.

On the other hand, I really enjoyed Storm last year (more than I'd expected to, in fact), as much as Southport.

    So, ummm.... dunno.

Tough one this mate, I have been to a lot of Ceroc weekenders and have had a ball at all of them. My honest advice do them both.

Knowing how you dance mate I would really do both. The opportunities to play and be unconventional are massive at both do's.

I have an idea which I will pm you with, mum's the word type of situation.

    Re: Weekender help

Remember - Ceroc havn't run a weekend at Southport before and so Southport's reputation is built on the hard work done by Jive Addiction.

Having said that I have enjoyed weekenders with Ceroc in the past including Storm.

As Dave says Southport Pontins is a much better venue than Camber. All the dance areas are on the same level under one roof. Accommodation wise there isn't much in it - both venues chalets are pretty grotty.

You may have been to Southport, but you've never been to Blush. The Southport venue used to be run by a different organisation so no comparison can be made and future great events at Southport can not be predicted from previous performance.

Have always enjoyed Storm. As Fletch said Ceroc have never done Southport before so there is nothing to judge it on apart from the venue. Perhaps checking out who is going to which one on the various threads might tip the scales for you..but I'm with David, Camber is nearer.

Having said that can't find any threads about who is going to which weekender for 2009

    No-one has.

Which is why I focussed on the objective factors. Venue, transport, and so on.

    Duh.

And therin lies the rub you sexy man you. Bugger all to choose between them apart from the Scottish and Irish dancers, who in my humble opinion are the best on the circuit. I don't want an argument but the Scottish and Irish just seem to immerse themselves in the dance and are truly brilliant dancers. Never had a bad dance with any of these.

Andy is a storming dancer as well, so Marcusi grab Andy for a dance as well mate....Stunning is he, as well as the sexiest man to ever walk the earth, I am mere dust upon his shoes.

Thanks to all for your help - I might choose Southport just to buck superstition with a weekend starting on Friday 13th

    Cool Re: Weekender help

I've been to quite a few Ceroc weekenders. To be honest, apart from Breeze they all have pretty much the same character (which is not meant as a bad thing - you know what you're getting for your £££). So I would opt for the one that is closest to you

Marcusj mate try my cunning plan. I know that getting a pint of Dragon's blood, a Goats head and a Translavanian dwarf, complete with limp and a hunchback is going to be tight, but apply yourself mate.

It seems that it's all the Celtic nations, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, who are great dancers. And the French are pretty good too, what nation is there that's missing?

    Re: Weekender help

Given that choice I would recommend you do Blush (ironically I may well book Storm instead as I haven't been to Camber for a while)

You'll probably see fewer familiar faces there which is no bad thing.

The physical layout of venues & accomodation is better at Southport than Camber IMO

The only unknown, given the acrimony over the venue takeover and the fact it is Ceroc's first event there, is how well attended Blush will be. Camber will probably sell out, it usually does. The only certainty with Blush is that the Ceroc management will be busting a nut to make sure everyone that does go has a good time.
