Remote control of iTunes on a PC

Does any one experience of remotely controlling iTunes on a PC

    The Hercules Tunes Explorer Wireless

Seemed to be what I want but it won’t play list and has a very limited range

depends what you want to do with it but there are quite a few good utilities that work using your mobile phone, over bluetooth, as a remote.

try clicker from Saling software which can also use wifi if your phone has it for better range
and control freak for nokia symbian phones

Myself, I use Apple's Remote program on my iPhone, which give me full control over iTunes, and is absolutely excellent.

I've not tried it on a PC, but I believe it should work. You simply need to have the iPhone and the PC on the same network - on the Mac, I simply set up a wireless network that my iPhone will automatically join, and it just works (had to authorise the phone on iTunes the first time I did it)

It's great, because the interface is exactly the same as the standard iPod Touch interface - so I can browse all the tracks / artists / playlists on the laptop as if they were on my phone, start / stop tracks, change the volume & play position, play the previous or next track - except that it all plays through the laptop not the phone (obviously)

of course, if you only want to skip to the next track - a wireless prentation device would do. It would cost as much as the Hercules though

Of course the Hercules does have a display which lets you know what is playing. However, I'm struggling to understand why the Hercules is needed.

Why don't you get a simple wireless multimedia keyboard and mouse - they are about the same price and you can do a lot more than simply step forward in a playlist with them! In fact I have an easier solution - wired keyboard with extension cable. Admittedly I can't control the PC from upstairs but then my wife won't let me play my music that loudly in the house anyway

Ah, all is clear. In that case good luck with the cordless presenters since you'll need to make sure that they give the correct input to whatever software you're using. I've got iTunes and MixMeister but I've never tried controlling either with a cordless presenter so you might need to ask a few searching questions before buying.

If that doesn't work then tying a keyboard to the back of your partner might look unconventional but it shouldn't get in the way of the dance too much
