    Flip videos - advice?

    Anyone into the Flip video?

I want some advice on model to go for. Of course, from a single model it now seems to have exploded with variants - and price points on Amazon from £77 - £170+.

My need is for basic, reasonable quality vid. Length of vid. not so important - 60 mins is plenty.

    Any thoughts/experiences?

PS Are Sony releasing a similar-ish product? Anyone tried it?

I've been involved in a project to get departments to film their own video content and upload it to YouTube. We considered the Flip, the Creative Vado and the Kodak ni6. In the end, we went with the Kodak. The video quality was better, and wider angle than the other two cameras, but the real bonus was that the Kodak can use external sd memory cards, whereas the other two can't. You can watch a comparison of all three on YouTube here:

It seems that the dude in the video is recommending the Creative.....because of it's wide angle and more natural skin tones/quality of picture. Did you see the You Tube before or after you bought them?

I watched all three clips before deciding to go with the Kodak - the wide angle and the expandable memory was the clincher. Other than that, it was subjective, I just liked the look of the video created by the Kodak.

The weakness of all three is that picture quality degrades in dim light, which makes it difficult to film dance events (if that's what you're planning on doing!).

Not for dance events. More for the impending trip 'down under'.....wedding etc......

I think from the quality of the YouTube clips - it seems that for dance events, some kind of specialist night vision camera might be appropriate.

Two questions... does anyone know what format these cameras record in and are they compatible with iMovie?

Secondly, I was just wondering if any of them could be fitted to a tripod, I couldn't tell from the pictures i've seen of them.

I know the Zi6 can take a tripod, and I think the other two can as well.

The Flip works with Imovie and shoots in H.264 MP4, and I know people who have used it with iMovie.

The new version of Windows Movie Maker will take pretty much anything you throw at it as well.

And I could see in Amazon that there were tripod accessories for the Flip.....
