Cruella's Charity dance to raise money for Macmillans Cancer Support

As some of you are aware, my father died of Cancer on New Years Eve. This has spurred me and my husband, Ian, into some more fundraising. He has booked to do a sponsored climb up Kilimanjaro for his part. Personally I'd rather keep my feet at ground level and raise my money by running another dance event, so I've gone ahead and booked the venue and roped in the DJ's.
With the last 2 events, I had a lot of help from other dancers and organisers and was deeply grateful for their generosity, ranging from help with promoting, raffle prizes, DJing, lending of equipment and generally supporting me by buying tickets, telling their friends and attending the event. Some even sold themselves
I'm after some more of that generosity, starting with the use of the forumites ideas.
    Firstly a theme and name!
Last time it was 'Tour De Dance' as Ian's fundraising was a bike ride from London to Paris.
The time before 'The Polar Freezestyle' as he went for a walk to The North Pole as you do!

This time, as I mentioned, he is climbing Kilimanjaro and I also want it to be in memory of my Dad. So has anyone any ideas for a name and theme around that info?
Any other ideas for fundraising stuff, for the night, would be great too.
    Thanks guys.

    "Reach for the sky"?

As for theme, no idea... Good luck though.

Ian suggested 'Dance for Dad' but I think that's a bit too personal and wouldn't appeal to the masses.
'African' is a possibility for the theme, being as Kilimanjaro is in Africa. All suggestions welcome though, to help my creative juices to flow.

What about using your father's name in the event name ?

    'Volcano' as a name?

There is a theory that the name Kilimanjaro comes from a Swahili word for 'white' or 'shining', which could be worked into a theme?

    Best of luck with it

Can you say where and when. It probabally isn't relevant for the name of the event but the info may give some inspiration.

I am sorry for your loss. I hope the dance will be somewhere I can get back from.

Did he have a particular hobby or passion that could be inspire a theme?

It's in Daventry, at the leiisiure center on July 18th.
He was a retained fireman for 20 years, the fire brigade was big part of his life.
He also loved dogs, Border Collies in particular.

Sorry to hear about your Dad.

Well you could have a fireman theme - wouldn't mind dancing with a few hunky chaps dressed up as firemen , might even get myself slightly singed around the edges... Not sure the doggy theme would work quite so well... though I'm sure it will exercise the imaginations of some on here

btw - is there a Travelodge or some such accomodation nearby? Or anyone with a spare bed for two? Might try and persuade Beo to come up for this.

First off, sorry to hear of your loss Curella

How about something simple, like "Fire". Encompasses both your husband's climb up a volcano, and your Father's firefighting career. Or maybe something a little longer like "Hot an Smokin"?

I had been thinking of a hot an cold theme. Because of Africa being hot and the fact that Dr Chill is one of the DJ's. The fireman connection would fit in there nicely too. So seems a possible favourite so far.
