I installed Firefox just to use downloadhelper. I have used it to save many clips from youtube. It uses .flv (Flash video) format. There is another add-on that can convert the .flv files to mpeg, viewable in Microsofts video player (and others).
I did use it to save videos from facebook, but I do not know if it works on all on there, which is why I did not say more. (+ I needed to get some sleep)
As it is a group you might not know the person so you can go with the other suggestions. If it was a friend I'd probably get them to send the original. I'd hate to think that people download the Facebook version of photos I upload when they could get a much better version if they wanted .
