2012 - MJ the British National dance? World dance?

Item on the news today suggesting that Morris dancing features in the opening ceremony as a British dance.

Obviously MJ should feature in the opening / closing ceremonies, but I think we could do better than that.

Why not get as many competing countries as possible to teach their athletes MJ and have athletes and others (press, media and others), all dancing together?

Morris dancing? may as well be Ceilidh or Irish if they're wanting a British dance. If they want an english dance, then waving sticks and hankies at each other with bells on sounds as good a way as any for reinforcing cultural and racial stereotypes.

Are you actually a 'gigolo for hire'?

No reason why Morris dancing could not feature as a British dance as long as other ethnic dances also feature as well. Mind you, with all the immigration over the last few years we could pretty much have anything now as an example of a British dance. Mazurka anyone?

As for stereotyping - I suppose any folk dance does that.
