Lory always looks lovely, at any weight; but that's not the point.

The point is that she wants to achieve something, for its own sake, and she wants a support group; an informal online "weight-watchers" if you will.

These things have worked OK in the past, both for fitness and other areas - for example, the "Learning Tango" group was a great source of support for me when I started out.

    So, I'm in.

Basically, this year I want to get down to a comfortable 32" waist, and to stay there.
but my goal is a comfortable 40"

Ok 2009 is going to be the year I retake control of my life and I am putting myself on a healthier regime. Must drag myself out of the blues room more because I have noticed that I have gradually put on weight since dancing mainly blues, but not tonight as I am still recovering from the night in Rugby and the journey home.

Lory and RubyRed you both looked stunning last night by the way but I know it is not what others think it’s how you feel yourself.

We need (well I do) more incentive (the forum help didn't work for me last year)

    I suggest REP POINTS !!

If all the dieters/health improvers that have enrolled be very honest and say whether they have lost or gained etc., the rest of us respond with positive or neg rep point - how does that sound ??

PS: AND complimentory dances (eg: you look great, fancy a dance)

    Am in.

I don't have a magic number to lose... but I have a shape in mind and it involves a little less girth!!!

My op is end of Jan, then a slow build up back to fitness... shall need more support then, but can give readily when ever...

Believe in yourself. Have sensible goals, and understand what it takes.

    Be loved, campers...

Re: Sign up HERE for 2009's diet and fitness club!

My aim is to get fitter again and to get back into all my clothes again which fit in May 2008.

What works for me is keeping a food diary, wearing my heart rate monitor when dancing (probably classes only!) so I can work out how much extra I can afford to eat, and will also be getting up when my alarm goes off to exercise before work (fitness dvds).

By March my target is to be back into most of my clothes and be feeling more toned.

I wish fat could be redistributed but failing that I would like to be slimmer in some areas and generally more toned. I would also like to be able to wear my smallest pair of trousers again! Any good stomach exercises that are not sit ups (which I hate because of the neck thing)? I am also thinking that I would be better at drops with stronger core muscles .

I'm in - I want to become more toned! I'm hoping that swimming, pole-fit and dancing will help...I'm also going to try to stop being so lazy and start cooking more...maybe

Pilates is good for developing core muscle strength, and there are good stomach exercises which don't involve jarring your neck. If you can't get to a class why don't you try a video.
if you love the life you live then you'll get a lot more done

Ok I'm in! I've just tried on my work trousers (first day back tomorrow) and it was a bit of a squeeze to get them done up!

It was also my new years resolution to improve my fitness and generally have a healthier lifestyle, all of which starts tomorrow - first day back at work!

Apparently the plank is the ultimate toning exercise(No, before you even start...NOT walking it!) - I'm not even going to try to explain it but I'm sure if you google it you'll get something useful.
Might even try doing a few myself!

Re: Sign up HERE for 2009's diet and fitness club!

Well, I'm not too unhappy about the way I look at the moment, as I've lost 5kg since October! Didn't even put any on over Christmas, which is great. Also, having a new man in my life who keeps telling me how sexy I am, does wonders for my self esteem!

However, I've not been to the gym for 3 months, and really need some motivation to get myself back there. I am also thinking of changing to another gym which is closer to my house, and has a swimming pool for some gentle exercise when my back is really sore, and I can't face a hard workout at the gym. I'd also like to dance a bit more, so might make it along to my local venue more often just for the freestyle.

I also need to start eating a bit more fruit, and less chocolate and biscuits, but this happens every winter: I crave carbs! Apart from that, I'm not going to change my lifestyle at all. I already walk my dog every day, dance once a week, and often go for walks at the weekends, so I'm not too unfit.

    Good luck to everyone!

    Oh no - bad idea!

I did one of those once and ended up with a mild asthma attack mid-class. I had to get out of the pool

Then, in the changing rooms I was met by all the old dears from the class asking me if I was ok . . . so embarrassing!

Re: Sign up HERE for 2009's diet and fitness club!

Can I sign up despite being halfway round the world ?

Am feeling slightly desperate - have a catch 22 situation where I know that to lose weight and get myself back into the clothes that are too tight I need to exercise but my knees are not good. I know that if I lose 4-5 kilos my knees will be a lot better, which I need to exercise to do, but I can't because my knees are not good... Bah..

Coupled with the fact there is almost no social dancing as we know it here, and I haven't found a gym buddy so going to the gym feels pretty lonely..
and that the expat lifestyle seems to involve copious amounts of alcohol...

and I haven't found any cute men to flirt with...

    I need help !

Am Definatley up for that, goals advertised and rated work for me, but as I am fairly new to the forum not sure what / how rep points work,

ps have been off the Wine and Beer for 4 days so far and still feeling positive, and motivated.
