    Simply Ceroc weekender, Wellington

Last month, DavidB & I attended the Simply Ceroc weekender in Wellington, New Zealand, organised by Adam & Mandy Nathanson of Ceroc Wellington. Many of you will also know that Adam runs CerocMetro here in the Southeast and regularly visits the UK from NZ.

It was one of the best weekenders we have been to and we had a blast. The event differs from those we have here in the UK, as it is not based in a single venue and accommodation is not part of the package, although Adam arranges special rates with a local hotel for any participants who require it.

The weekender started with a dance party on Friday at a hotel in town, followed the next 2 days with workshops held at the University of Wellington's campus. This is on top of a hill with breathtaking views of the city & the bay. The Saturday night dance was held at the Wellington Centre for Performing Arts, with 3 rooms playing a wide variety of music. The evening started with an hour's cabaret with performances from all the teachers and also some of the punters. This seems like a great idea as those who don't want to watch the cabaret can come after 9pm when the freestyle starts.

The Sunday night dance was a grand ball held at the Te Papa Museum, which is one of NZ's foremost museums. The theme was "A night at the Oscars" and Adam came as Austin Powers () and Mandy as Marilyn Monroe. This event was held in the foyer - a huge venue with marble floor - and started with a superb sit-down dinner. A truly fabulous event .

Monday was a public holiday in NZ, so most people stayed for the farewell brunch held at a restaurant in town. It was sad to say goodbye to the many friends we had made during the course of the weekend . Promises were extracted from us - - to return soon.

If anyone is contemplating visiting New Zealand in October/November, I strongly recommend that you drop in to Wellington for the Simply Ceroc weekender. It is the biggest MJ weekend event in Australasia, with participants & teachers from neighbouring countries (ie. Oz) and of course the UK (). For more info see http://www.simplyceroc.com/ or contact Adam (he is 'cerocmetro' on the forum) for details of next year's event.

Have had a number of friends go to this over the years - and have always heard rave reviews is absolutely on my to do list when I get back to that side of the world.

just one correction to lily's review - it is most likely Victoria University of Wellington (there isn't isn't actually a Wellington university)

You must be right. We just got driven everywhere (Kiwis are such hospitable folk) so didn't need to know exactly where/what everything was.

BTW In case we haven't mentioned it before, New Zealand is absolutely stunning!

When I was in Auckland for the LeBop Champs, (the following week), people were still talking about it ... and especially you guys. Met up with Emma C, Ceroc teacher at Queenstown, who was on the teaching rota with you and she was similarly in awe of Team Barker

    Now THATS a great idea!

You could do as you say, come out after its finished, or, as I'd probably do, watch it, then go back, have something to eat and go to bed for a couple of hours

It was a fantastic weekend, and it was so good to catch up with you and David.

Not only an awesome weekend, but also a very friendly one. Nice people those Kiwi's.

Loved the brunch on Monday, followed by the 4WD mad convoy to go seal spotting, in a place where no sane people would normally venture.
